Sinossi

*********************************************
UPDATE NOVEMBER 10, 2012: There is now a FREE download link for my Freestanding Hangboard Plans ebook on the very last page of 101 Rock Climbing Tips and Tricks. The book goes into detail about how you can set up a hangboard without drilling holes in your walls.
*********************************************

101 Rock Climbing Tips and Tricks is for climbers who have a handle on the basics (they know how to belay and rappel, for example) and are looking for ways to climb better, climb more efficiently, and make their climbing life easier. Beginning and intermediate climbers will find a lot of useful information in these tips and even advanced climbers will likely find some new tricks to implement.

In this book are 101 rock climbing tips that the author wrote over a period of two years for a now-defunct rock climbing blog, and which are now exclusively available again for the first time. The tips are based on the experiences of the author, who has been climbing for more than 16 years and has established over 200 new routes, including the second longest sport climb in the United States. He's been in Climbing magazine twice.

The 101 rock climbing tips are broken into the following 9 categories:

• Essential climbing tips (17 tips)
• General climbing tips (12 tips)
• Sport climbing tips (6 tips)
• Trad climbing tips (15 tips)
• Multi-pitch tips climbs (14 tips)
• Gear tips (23 tips)
• Training and downtime tips (5 tips)
• Rappelling tips (5 tips)
• Other tips (4 tips)

Included in the book are 31 photos and illustrations to help explain and clarify the text.

Here are a few examples of the kinds of tips and tricks you can expect to find in the book:

#3 - Should you practice falling?
#8 - 9 ways to climb better without even trying
#18 - How to read a route in 6 steps
#29 - 9 tips for getting over your climbing plateau
#36 - What's the best way to start trad climbing?
#52 - 6 things to consider before doing a multi-pitch route
#65 - 6 ways to score cheap gear
#59 - The $2 climbing knife
#78 - How to jumpstart a car with climbing gear
#79 - The chalk funnel
#87 - 16 things to do with an old rope

And there's a lot more where that came from.

All of the tips and tricks are written in a conversational style that is far removed from the boring, textbookish language used in most instructional climbing literature.

This book is 26,000+ words in length.

I would say I fall easily into the beginner/low level intermediate climber. I found this to be an awesome collection of short, bite-sized tips. You can read a couple, and then come back later and read a few more. I would recommend this to anyone, especially while it's free!

apologies for the cheesy title. But this is a must have. Yeah it doesn't cover "everything" but it gives tips which are really helpful, that no one else condenses quite so nicely, and from Tristan's personal experience on the rock, so you don't have to waste hours, or money flailing about. Provides ideas you haven't even thought of. As I didn't even discover rockclimbing till I was 31 y.o. (Yikes!) ... er this year... I find it really important for me to save time. Great ideas, great reference. Touches on all sorts of things. I got it when I was just top roping indoors... then when I wanted to lead I read it, then when I wanted to lead outside I read it, then when I wanted to try trad I read it, then when I wanted to multi-pitch I read it. Saves time from wading through giant books (comprehensive, but sometimes excessive stuff you don't need, already know. A fun style of writing that I just enjoy reading, over and over. THANKS FOR WRITING THIS in fact... I want more!

5.0 su 5 stelle It's cheap and it's good! 22 settembre 2012

I just bought this book and already think it's well worth the three bucks I paid for it. I started climbing about 8 years ago but would still consider myself mostly a beginner and I like that this book has information that is valuable for climbers of all levels. This book has tips appropriate for climbers who are just starting out as well as solid advice for more experienced climbers, and I this book can grow with you as you develop experience and confidence as a climber. The writing style is straightforward, concise, and easy to read so its really easy to find the info you need quickly without wading through too much fluff. The illustrations are clear, and the advice provided is accurate. You can tell the author knows his stuff and is passionate about climbing.

For the three bucks this Kindle book will cost you, you can't go wrong and it feels good to think that my small donation is helping to support a guy who lives for climbing and sharing his love of climbing and expertise with others.

Back when Tristan started on his quest to have daily climbing tips, I told him he would give up after a week or so. Here is to persistence!

4.0 su 5 stelle Good book, nice read 31 gennaio 2013

I've been climbing for about two years. There were a lot of good tips, some new, some good reminders. The section in trad was cool because I don't climb it.

Nothing ground breaking, but a lot of simple and solid climbing tips. Worth the cash.
