As the editor/collector of this particular volume of recorder books, the first of five, I would not presume to pass comments on its merits but thought a brief note of its history and success wouldn't be out of order. Unfortunately this website will not allow a blank 'rating' box and so I have had to do the obvious!
The Abracadabra Recorder series was produced as a result of many years of recorder teaching and collecting together material which appealed to beginners who wanted to play tunes they knew very quickly instead of endless exercises. This is the only reason for the success of Abracadabra Book 1 in particular, many well-known tunes only requiring a knowledge of the basic 5 notes, G - D, to play.
The books were published by A and C Black in 1982 and have sold in large numbers ever since, having been reprinted many times. There are a huge number of other recorder books for beginners around now but Abracadabra Recorder Book 1 is still holding its own and selling well - nearly 8000 copies in the last 12 month period alone.
