Ottimo prodotto per chi vuole costruirsi un PC di fascia medio-alta senza spendere una follia. Poi il display direttamente sulla scheda madre che indica lo stato attuale di funzionamento, è un tocco di classe.

HASH(0x9ac47ccc) su 5 stelle The Maximus VI Hero is awesome! It has everything I want, none of what I don't 27 giugno 2013
Di Bobby D - Pubblicato su
Once again the time had come for me to build a new PC. In the past I've looked at many boards but always ended up with an Asus Deluxe motherboard for each new build. I like the higher quality components and prefer to have additional flexibility when overclocking. My oldest system currently running is based on the P5WDH Deluxe and has been running steadily for seven years now.

However, the Deluxe boards usually include new gadgets and many extra features that I usually end up not using. After my last build I realized that all the extras that Asus threw on my Deluxe board I had disabled: the non-Windows-based mini OS on a flash stick for quick email and web surfing, the SAS controller, the built-in Wi-fi, dual LAN ports etc.

I found myself thinking, "If only Asus would make a simpler board with high quality components, and easy overclocking. Just what I need, and no extras driving the cost over $300." Enter the Maximus VI Hero.

[The GOOD]
I use my PC for photography, music, and gaming. When it comes to features, this board has everything I need and none of what I don't. The features I like:
- High quality black capacitors (rated for 10 years), BlackWing chokes, and efficient MOSFETs
- Up to 8 USB2 and 6 USB3 ports
- Support for 2-way SLI, no unnecessary PLX chip for me
- PCIe slot layout easily accommodates 2-way SLI and I can use the other slots for my other cards without interference
- Intel LAN
- 8 SATA 6Gbps ports (6 native, 2 from the ASMedia controller)
- Super fast boot time, I'm logging into Windows 8 about 10 seconds after hitting the power button.

The board has a sharp looking color scheme. I like the look of the black PCB coupled with red and white highlights. The SupremeFX "wire" along the bottom left corner lights up via red LEDs and there are a handful of LED indicators and two-digit display showing which parts of the system may be malfunctioning when diagnosing a problem.

The bundled software seems quite useful too. AI Suite 3 is awesome, the automatic overclocking feature is pretty neat. If you demand instant satisfaction and are not a skilled overclocker, this makes it really easy to do. Edit (7/1/2013): I was able to easily overclock my 4770K to 4.4 GHz with no effort on my part at all.

When I'm not gaming I like to make my system as quiet as possible. The Fan Xpert 2 software quickly generates profiles for each of your fans and you can setup your own fan curves easily. I'm so happy I can say goodbye to my manual fan controllers. I also appreciate the inclusion of DAEMON Tools Pro Standard.

[The BAD]
Although I'm enamored with this board, I should mention a couple of hiccups I encountered while using it. At release time, the Mem TweakIt application says it needs to be updated before any memory settings can be changed with it. Lastly AI Suite 3 has a control panel that is a bit annoying as it sits to the side of the desktop and pops out when you hover on it with your mouse. Supposedly you can disable it from showing up on start-up using an option, but when I reboot it comes back. I suspect these issues will be fixed with an update in the near future, and honestly if these are the only problems I'm having with a newly released board (and processor gen) then I don't have a lot to complain about. The board itself and the BIOS seem very solid thus far.

Edit (7/1/2013): I previously mentioned that I could not get the SSD Secure Erase feature to work properly. However, I added a new SSD to my system and it worked perfectly. Not sure what the initial glitch was, but it works fine now.

I am extremely happy with the Hero and I heartily recommend this motherboard for both gamers and non-gamers alike. If you want a solid Z87 board in the $200-$250 range, the Hero is certainly worthy of your consideration. Five stars.

HASH(0x9b50cc54) su 5 stelle Not sure it is worth the ROG Premium 2 gennaio 2014
Di Alan - Pubblicato su
Bought this MB for a gaming rig build. The entire build was the most expensive build I have ever done. I used only excellent quality components and refrained from too many compromises on price vs. performance.

I do TONS and TONS of research before I buy something and this is no exception. Asus has an excellent rep with rock solid boards and great quality control.

This is no exception. This board booted up and worked exactly as advertised...I can't complain at all about that. The merits of the board are easily seen both in the recommendations here and buy doing a few google searches.

Where I struggle some is real value of this board vs. ASRock or MSI. My previous board was an MSI. Zero problems 5 years later.

I think if you are going for extreme over clocking this has some nice things that other boards may not, but no blue tooth or wifi support and the fact I see nothing to recommend for the casual over clocker over a board at 1/2 the cost... I do not think I can recommend this board to anyone.

That is not to say this board is not rock solid and does exactly what they say it is just for $100 dollars less you can get more functionality unless you are truely into hard core over clocking.

HASH(0x9b25a600) su 5 stelle Excellent Board, ASUS Perfection Continues! 5 agosto 2013
Di SHIELDHEAD - Pubblicato su
- Excellent build quality, board design, and layout.
- Excellent BIOS, nothing too fancy or annoying, it does its job.
- Great stability and voltage delivery (no crashes due to the board yet)
- Aesthetically it's very pleasing. (Opinion)
- Great on-board sound! (First real thing I noticed, no need for a sound card unless you truly need one)
- Quick BIOS Post! (Unlike my previous board, Asus Maximus III Formula)

- Tech support could've been better

Other Thoughts: My issue with tech support and the software is that I pay a premium for an ASUS board and they didn't deliver on their promise. My AI Suite III will not install for some unknown reason(It's not my fault I've tried countless different things). I called tech support and they gave me a run around that ended in a path to no where. However, Asus has henceforth fixed this issue with their software and drivers.

My Build:
Asus Maximus VI Hero
Intel Core i7 4770K @ 4.0 Ghz (25C-30C Idle, 60C 100% Load -> 1hr of Aida64)
Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler
Asus GTX 770
G-Skill 8GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
Samsung 840 Series 250GB SSD
Corsair HX850W PSU
Cooler Master HAF-XB Case

Edit 1: Asus has fixed the issue with their Software and Drivers not installing properly. I can now give this motherboard a 5/5 stars. Excellent job fixing this problem in a relatively quick time!

I love the features of this board. I'm a first time PC builder and I selected this board for its easy overclocking abilities, design and availble features. Install went great, no issues except when I was installing the supplied drivers. At first, I used the ASUS instALL feature which was nice. I could select all the drivers and additional software that ASUS offers with their product and weed out the unwanted bloatware too. After the installation and reboot, my system took 5-10 minutes to boot back up. That is that once windows 8.1 had loaded up to desktop mode, all programs seemed to be frozen for the next 5-10 minutes. The PC wasn't frozen, I could still refresh the computer and move the mouse just fine, but anything program related went extremely slow. Until that time frame passed, I couldn't do anything. Once the time frame passed, everything was normal, going fast like it should. So after doing some research and not finding anything that could help me, I decided to do a System Refresh, which solved the issue. I then began to install the drivers one by one to see which one(s) was causing the problem. So after a little bit of installing and rebooting, It came down to two programs that would cause the extreme slow boot process. It was the Real Tek Audio drivers and the Asus Management Engine Interface driver. Just uninstalling doesnt work either, atleast for the ASUS MEI driver. The Real tek could be uninstalled and performance would return. But the ASUS MEI driver doesnt matter if you uninstall it or not. Your stuck with the slowness. I'm sure there is a way to fix it without having to refresh the PC, but I don't know how.
But other than the drivers issues, its a awesome board.
PROs- Plenty of USB slots, Plenty of SATA connectors. My board came with 6 SATA cables, 3-90 degree and 3-Straight.
CONs- Driver issues

I've tried contacting ASUS about the issue with no response back. I love this board and would be more than willing to change it's rating to a 5 star if i can get the driver issue fixed.

Update- Mar 05, 2014. After doing more and more troubleshooting, I've gotten it down to the problem being with Windows 8.1. I installed Windows 7 and everything worked perfectly. All the drivers and features included. Asus says that this board is 8.1 ready, but obviously not. I have again tried to contact ASUS with no prevail. Now there is the possibillity that I could have a faulty board, doubtful since it works perfectly with 7, but it seems more likely that they need to tweak their drivers a bit. I don't have a copy of just Windows 8 to try, so it's possible it could work then. Luckily Amazon is amazing with their returns and gave me a full refund for Windows 8.1 and gave me a free upgrade to next day shipping so I could purchase another operating system. So cudos to Amazon.

I was so excited about this board. The first board I got has broken and bent pins on it and had to send it back. Second board I got would tell me no memory installed. Called Asus customer support (some of the best), we figured out that 3 out 4 memory slots did not work and I had to update the bios. Got it working for one day. The next day it dose not work at all saying there is legacy memory in it not. Now I am waiting on my third mobo now. Every time I receive these boards they are not sealed in plastic. I do not know but I think amazon is selling refurbished boards or got a bad shipment. I should not have to get three motherboards to get it it to work correctly. This is such a hassle and it takes time to build and take apart and rebuild the PC. Amazon has been nice to keep sending me new boards but for my time I think they should give me a little incentive to keep with amazon. I do pay 99 dollars a year for amazon prime.
