I hesitated between a 3 and a 4, I really wish we could have half star, because there is a lot of swearing and I do not like swearing. Ok, I can deal with a 'normal' amount, but in Closure, there is a lot.
I have to say this nearly spoiled my reading. But this is me and I do not think I should penalise a book for something I do not like, when it is a way of writing and the story is fine. And I guess by the time I arrived to the end, I got used to it.
That is for the negative. Now, for the good points.
Closure is a good suspense thriller. There is quite a good story in there. The beginning leads very quickly to a very gory and distressing scene, but we have after a bit of a calm. It took me a while to understand what the author did, he gave us clues little by little and all along the book. But be aware then, not to jump too fast to conclusions, as I did with the DNA testing. I found it strange there was no DNA report. But then, the DNA situation is explained later in the book and this what I have liked , that we are not spoon fed the story, we have to work it out
Zackary Taylor, the main protagonist, is a policeman with a 7 year grudge with one of the rich man of the country, whom he thinks is bent. Zachary is your ultimate cop, incorruptible and quite likeable when he can keep his mouth clean. I think he is also very misunderstood and gets the wrong end of the stick for nothing. The fact is, he sometimes acts then thinks. But there is also a tender side to him and as a female reader, this is quite engaging. Sometimes, you really want to murder him but most of the time, you want to protect him, especially from his very selfish girlfriend. And in between, help him to unveil a web of deceit.
In a nutshell, Closure is a good cop story with good cops, bad cops, goodies and baddies but where things are not what they seem at first.
I recommend it to everyone who likes a good action/thriller story with a little bit of gore. And also with an open mind, because even the story is not unusual, the development might be.
I will definitely buy the second in the series if there is one. It does not end on a cliff hanger, which is good but you can feel there might be another adventure with Zackary.
