Amber Mcpherson is summoned to Inverness in Scotland by a letter sent to her by her grandfather, right before he is killed. In the letter he tells her that his death, though labeled "natural causes", is actually murder. He leaves Amber a trail of clues to follow; clues that hopefully only she will be able to understand. When a man calling himself a private investigator shows up with another letter written by her grandfather asking the P.I. to protect Amber, the two of them start off on an adventure that will forever change their lives. As threats on Amber's life continues, they uncover a trail of death and murder all linked to the greatest secret that Loch Ness has. The question is, will they survive long enough to figure it out?

4.0 su 5 stelle A Grand Novel for a set of Grand ideas :D 12 giugno 2013

I've first heard of this book from Abbie's friend (hint: SCIENCENESS) and it made me quite interested. I've bought it and after I've read it, I would have to say just one thing . . . . . . AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!

I'm serious, this novel has definitely redefine books involving cryptids (in my opinion). The action, the science, the epic-ness, and the romance (sorta, but I'll get to that later).

A load of it was definitely great. The way she has used history, science, and such to merge together perfectly to make it as if is actually possible and might actually happen. I loved how she would explain Nessie's existence and how she and her kind have hidden, literally, in plain sight. I even loved the opposing group in the novel that are called the Guardians. Not gonna spoil much, but I would say that it's a group that wants to do a pretty fair and noble thing, but do so by wrong means. And to tell you the truth, I like bad guys like that in books :)

The only thing I would complain about (though just a bit, nick-picky sorta thing) is the romance. The love scenes in this book are very dang clever, cute, and (what else) romantic. But, without giving away too much, moved pretty dang fast. But this is just a nick-pick. Other than that, I would reckon this novel!

5.0 su 5 stelle Cryptid Conspiracies: The Secret of Loch Ness review 25 febbraio 2013
Di TekeoMiona - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

Being an actual friend to Abbie's and having the same hometown, I am sort of obligated to say I liked this book. But even if I wasn't, I'd be sayin' it anyway.

First thing I'll say is I loved having the same name as one of the main characters (not really important but I'm puttin' it out there anyway). The thing I loved most, however, was the detail behind everything. Not way too much, but not lacking a lot either. There are a lot of authors out there that try shoving as much detail as possible into their story, thinking they sound smarter and more dedicated, or they do very little and expect the reader to use their imagination to imagine scenes that are barely described. Abbie is great at finding the perfect balance.

Especially when it came to the science. As much of an animal-science geek that I am, I'll admit that I have NEVER heard of the European Eel or the Sargasso Sea. (Never heard of "Inverness" either.....that was interesting) Anywho, she did an amazing job at explaining the.....SCIENCENESS (to avoid spoilers) in a way that would make sense to anyone without sounding like a dimwit.

And last but not least, the content. Great adventure, harrowing danger, and well-done romance that even I can stand. Yes, there are some moments when her writing cries out, "I'm new at this!", but it's not often and besides, a new author having to completely edit her own work by herself, it's to be expected. What also cries out, is, "Watch out best-sellers, I'm on my way!". I have no doubt she'll be there someday if she wants to be.

Overall, a great book that anyone interested in mythological, scientific, and adventurous stories would certainly love. I can't wait 'til Book Two.

5.0 su 5 stelle Cryptid Conspiracies: Book One: The Secret of Loch Ness (Volume 1) 12 gennaio 2013
Di Mindy Ayres - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

When I first started reading this story, I'll be honest I didnt even know what the word Cryptid meant. But I have always been very interested in the myths and legends of the Nessie, the Loch Ness creature. The mystery of that always makes for a fantastic story, which intrigued me to begin with in this book. Abbie Goyette nailed it! Her story of this illusive creature, from the Prologue all the way to the last chapter, EVEN the author's commentary....was absolutely fascinating!!

I really have to have my full attention and interest be grabbed and pulled in, within the first few pages or chapters, for me to actually get into a book and finish reading it! Before Im bored and usually scan the chapters, skipping to the last two chapters or pages out of impatience to get to the point of the plot. Which makes for frustration when trying to find an author that delivers and I will stick with. Along with being a writer of sorts myself, I tend to be very selective (picky) about what I read. Articulation, simplicity yet structured written form to make the story become visual in ones imagination or mind is what I experienced reading this book. Sensory visualization and actually getting so engrossed in a story that you can actually feel through the character, on many levels. The fear, panic, the sense of touch and sight and thoughts that each main character experiences within the story, is in my opinion, the best...most talented way of writing!! Abbie Goyette does this, extraordinarily so!! I could feel the moist salted mists of the Scottish seaside shores against my cheeks...and the slight sting of the salted thick air I could feel as I breathed deeply (catching myself actually taking a deep breath as I would read the descriptive scenes). THIS, is TRUE WRITING TALENT! To relate to characters in the book and live through the plot and scenes of the twisting tale as a reader, is AMAZING!

I was absolutely amazed to find such talent in such a young writer, the kind of talent that very experienced and best selling authors are capable of. SUch as Clive Cussler. I really feel like Im reading a written work of the young, not yet known, but extremely talented storyteller and author, Cussler!! Everyone had a beginning, very very few of us writers, have a natural God given talent at writing however. Even with University training and many attempts, few of us really can start out our career with such talent as this writer has. Im being very honest in saying, Im almost envious of such talent when I come across it, like I have with this writer!! I wish she could teach me how she describes such scenes and characters in simplistic detail yet articulated so well I feel like Im reading the work of an author that is on the level of Cussler! Best seller, for a reason!!! One day, her name is going to be on the best seller list! And it wont be because of the lack of Amazons promotional advertising, or lack of connections and big names to promote her either. I WISH I had just a smidgen of this young lady's talent!! I cannot WAIT to read her next tale in the series, I am not a very patient person but I WILL wait.

If you are skeptical, just read a portion of the prologue....then you will understand exactly why I took the time to write this review!! ~M. Plesa

The characters are well written, and the romance did not get in the way of the main plot. The subject was well researched. The plot line makes sense, and is easy to follow. All in all, well put together and a great story. I have already recommended it to several friends and will continue to do so.
