Descrizione prodotto

Drugs, Society and Human Behavior provides the latest information on drug use and its effects on society as well as on the individual. Trusted for more than 30 years by both instructors and students, this authoritative resource examines drugs and drug use from a variety of perspectives—behavioral, pharmacological, historical, social, legal, and clinical. The text not only gives students the tools and information to make better personal decisions about psychoactive substances but also promotes a deeper understanding of the individual problems and social conflicts that arise when others misuse and abuse these substances. Accompanying the text are instructor and student resources on the Online Learning Center.

WHile this is an excellent book... it is way overpriced for what it is. Perhaps the price would be more justified if it were at least hardcover.

I ordered this textbook for my class. My school bookstore wanted $130.00 for a used one. Buying this book saved me $100.00 - literally!!! The book was used but was in excellent condition. I was sooo happy with this purchase! Best purchase I have ever made on Amazon! This book had no marks and no highlighting. It did have a few page earmarks, but who cares. The cover was in good condition. Couldn't have asked for a better book!

Used this book in my psycopharmacology class (388), was very happy with it. It provides a thorough introduction to psychoactive drugs, one of those books good enough to actually use...

Great source of information. Was the book needed for the course taken. Would use this book again. This book opened my eyes to the problems associated with drugs.

Three main concerns aroused public interest: (1) toxicity: some drug sellers were considered to be endangering the public health and victimizing individuals because they were selling dangerous, toxic chemicals, often without labeling them or putting appropriate warnings on them; (2) dependence: some sellers were seen as victimizing individuals and endangering their health by selling them habit-forming drugs, again often without appropriate labels or warnings; and (3) crime: the drug user came to be seen as a threat to public safetythe attitude became widespread that drug-crazed individuals would often commit horrible, violent crimes. "e;

1956 Narcotic Drug Control Act, with the toughest penalties yet. Under this law, any offense except rst-offense possession had to result in a jail term, and no suspension, probation, or parole was allowed. Anyone caught selling heroin to a person younger than 18 could receive the death penalty. Anslinger commented on that particular provision by saying, Id like to throw the switch myself on drug peddlers who sell their poisons to minors. "e;

Dr. Wright drafted a bill, which was submitted by Senator Harrison of New York, titled An Act to provide for the registration of, with collectors of internal revenue, and to impose a special tax upon all persons who produce, import, manufacture, compound, deal in, dispense, or give away opium or coca leaves, their salts, derivatives, or preparations, and for other purposes. 6 With a title like that, its no wonder that this historic law is usually referred to as the Harrison Act. "e;
