Sinossi
The English-German-Russian-Slovak-Czech Ice-Hockey Glossary is published on the occasion of the major sports event of 2011 in Slovakia – the IHF World Championship in Bratislava and Košice. The same as with other activities, communication between teammates and coaches is also very important in team sports. This not only applies to players who make it into the NHL, but also for players who take part in competitions in different countries such as Finland, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary or Austria. The glossary is intended to assist coaches and players who wish to obtain information directly from foreign materials. It originated as a translation of an English database of ice hockey terminology, extracted from texts obtained from Internet sources related to IHF and NHL activities. We would like to gradually add to the terminology glossary, with new terms as well as new languages such as Swedish, Finnish and even less well known “hockey languages”, such as Italian or Polish. We believe that the glossary will help communication between coaches, referees and young players, as well as fans of ice-hockey.
