2.0 su 5 stelle No Added Benefit to Facebook Online Documentation 13 marzo 2012

I came to Facebook reluctantly as a mid-life professional. I have a different standard of privacy, it seems, that many of my younger colleagues. Nevertheless, I realized the powerful potential of reaching close to 1 billion active users, in terms of my business. Although I had been an IT professional in the past, I found many of Facebook's idiosyncracies the opposite of user-friendly or intuitive, and the documentation provided on Facebook is sparse and confusing at best. I decided I needed "Facebook for Dummies". However, I was very disappointed. I found it very poorly written, and it did not address the really core questions I had, like, "what is the difference between my wall and my news feed". Some of the information is there, but organized poorly and hard to access. Doing a Google search I found some free resources that did a great job of teasing these issues out and making them clear: and they're free. For example, I found one that was written for real estate professionals that taught me more in five minutes than reading this entire book. I would say don't waste your money. Check out third-party documentation written for professionals, and forget this book.

I had high hopes for this book but was a little disappointed. It was the newest addition but it did not cover a lot of my questions, maybe because Facebook updated their site again. I really do think there are no good answers available anywhere. This was my second purchase of tutorials and I am still in the dark. My not spending a lot of time on Facebook contributes but if I knew more I would be on more. Sounds like going in circles doesn't it. End result .... no good books available.

4.0 su 5 stelle Good intro to Facebook 6 settembre 2012

When I started this book I had seen a Facebook page only once. I chose to read the book through instead of skipping around - figuring correctly that there was a logical progression by the author. Working with a desk top version of Facebook while reading the book on a tablet increased my ability to put what I was reading into practice more easily. When you start from zero, there is a lot of content and mechanics to absorb. The combination worked well. The book IS well organized and well written. The hot button subject of privacy settings was very well presented with emphasis on the impact of specifying each setting.

I did find the pictorial representations rather small to read on a tablet and there was low tolerance for expanding their size before being hopelessly blurred.

I would recommend this book to new users of Facebook with the caveat that being able to have the book and the application accessible at the same time makes the learning process more effective. If you can't do that, you may find the old fashioned paper copy more useful.
