4.0 su 5 stelle BLOOD, LOVE AND BATTLES! 20 giugno 2012

I really enjoyed this easy-fast-reading book becuase it reminds me of King Arthur or like The Lord of the Rings or some sort of a hero from that era. A book were dark magic, battles, blood, and love seems the most important thing if our life. This story is like someone retelling it and talks about the last hope of the human race.

-If you want a fast reading short story read this one!. Another great story by Kevis Hendrickson.

4.0 su 5 stelle A Review by Jason at Short Fiction Spotlight 30 agosto 2012

Kevis Hendrickson submitted "The Fall of Ithar" to be reviewed at Short Fiction Spotlight (click my name above for a link to that website).

At heart "The Fall of Ithar" is a love story. It tells the tale of Garathos and his wife Aradhel, as they battle to defend their kingdom from a fierce enemy.

Kevis Hendrickson, in such a short story, builds a unique world that I am eager to learn more about. He uses special pronunciation (described before the story begins) to give the world and culture a unique feel, and the names of the characters and places he uses only add to the story and world he has built. "The Fall of Ithar" reads like it were an excerpt from a long lost historical text. Even the dialogue, minimal as it is here, is not of the norm, with lots of "thy's" and "thee's" and "thou's." The title may give you the impression that this story is about the fall of a city, but that is not what drives the story arc. The two central characters steer the story, and their love for one another shines throughout.

There are a lot of character and place names in "The Fall of Ithar." While the world building is excellent, it is easy to get slightly confused as more names are thrown at you. A quick check back to a prior page or two solves the problem, however. Be warned that this story is primarily built exposition and event description. You will not find much dialogue here.

Kevis's writing style is perfectly suited for the fantasy genre. The story ends on a sad note, but that can't be shocking considering the title. It does set up future tales nicely. I could easily see novels following this short story. It is difficult to tell from the cover and material that followed the story if this is part of a series or not. If it is, I recommend that Kevis describe the series more within the publication so his readers will know what follows or precedes this story and where to find future ebooks.

Thumbs up to Kevis for "The Fall of Ithar." I at Short Fiction Spotlight love me some good epic fantasy, and this one fit the bill.

A short story that immediately transports the reader to the world of the Avar universe. It continues in a narration style that feels as though the story is being read to you. A legend and undying love that endures the ages of war is also a pleasing element to the story giving it a fairy tale quality that is one of my personal favorites in fantasy stories such as this one. In the similar fashion of Tolkien, an overall a good story! 3.5 stars
