4.0 su 5 stelle An honest look at the french diet 2 agosto 2012
Di Jewel - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

I've read a few books about the french diet and while I've understood the basic principles (fresh food, small portions, quality over quantity etc), the books haven't really given me the insight into the reason why the french diet works. I really enjoyed reading this book as I believed it was quite honest about some of the tactics used by french women to maintain their weight. Some of the other books hinted at these but none actually described them in detail. I guess because they're a little controversial (eg, skipping meals - I was horrified at first when I read about this but the author explains it well and it made perfect sense in the right context). I liked the writing style which was to the point and at times very funny. The only downside I thought were the recipes at the end of the book; I thought they were unnecessary and that the book stood well enough on its own without them.

4.0 su 5 stelle Solid Plan for Eating 10 febbraio 2012

I like this book. I have read a lot of diet books in my life. I own an impressive amount of cookbooks, some of them "diet" ones. Of them all, for me, this one makes the most sense. I am not French nor have I been to France. Given that, I will not comment on whether or not what is said about France or French women is true. I am an American and much of what was said about us, in my opinion, is sadly true. The author gives solid advice that in reality you probably know. She also refers to this in the book. I don't know why but sometimes you just need to be told, or to read it, to get the message. The fact that she writes like a friend talking to you, I think helps you digest the message. It's an easy, fast read. I started it planning to just glance through and read later. I ended up reading it straight through, highlighting and bookmarking as I read. It is a book I would recommend to friends and family. I read it on a KFire. It looked good on it.

5.0 su 5 stelle Advice from a girlfriend that works.... 25 agosto 2012

I am down 20 pounds so far. The book just takes us back to common sense: real foods, limited amounts, movement. I appreciate that I am not expected to eat 6 times a day because that just keeps my focus on food. I find it an elegant food plan that is simple to remember and follow.

2.0 su 5 stelle Disappointing 9 aprile 2014
Di M. Correa - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato:Formato Kindle
I purchased a few different books on the subject of the French diet, and this was by far the most disappointing of the lot. For starters, the editing was shoddy and there were a number of typos and errors in the Kindle edition (which is the one I got). But putting that aside, the content was just not well presented. The tone was overly familiar and casual, and it made the author sound sort of ditzy and undermined the message she was trying to convey.

More importantly, it seems as if this book is not really true to the French diet/lifestyle. The author still suggests that you start off with some decidedly non-French diets to lose weight and then just use the French "diet" for maintenance. Mais non!

If you are interested in exploring the real French diet/lifestyle, I would recommend Sally Asher's "Losing It In France" and Dr. William Clower's "The French Don't Diet" books much more highly.
