Sinossi

Jo Mitchell is a thirty-something woman who is deeply covered by her career and the safety of her overstuffed apartment. Her love-life seems to have hit a stone wall, while the little family she has left takes turns tormenting her fragile psyche. Trapped in this hum-drum existence, her somewhat unspectacular career is what truly sets her apart, and it is her only success to speak of.

Right in the midst of this chaos, a new mysterious man (Mark) begins working at her company. Much to the disbelief of Jo, it appears that he is interested in her on a social level. They quickly develop a rapport and Jo's head is now spinning.

Could this finally happen to her?

Could her dreams truly come true?

Things are rarely perfect. There is a sadness that sometimes sweeps across Mark's mind and darkens his beautiful eyes. He runs away and leaves Jo standing there in confusion and agony. Jo must know what has become of the man she has fallen for and won't give up on her dream of perpetual happiness.

But could the dream be costing her too much?

From Now On is a story of hope and hopelessness; of wanting to love and be loved; of love and fear; of wanting the thing that scares you the most. From Now On will entertain you, thrill you, move you, and stay with you for a long, long time to come...

Jo Mitchell is a doormat. She lets everyone walk all over her, talk down to her, talk about her behind her back, steal her boyfriends, and basically make her feel like crap on a daily basis. She works hard and supports her Mother, who can't be bothered to be self-sufficient, and she stands up for herself. When she meets the new IT guy, Mark, she's shocked that he's so nice to her. They develop a friendship, but when it starts to lead to more, Mark runs. Will Jo fight for Mark or will she just let go as usual?

Jo is really a sad sack of a chick, a total jellyfish. Frankly, the same could be said about Mark. It's interesting though to see two people with such tentative personalities trying to get around their insecurities/trust issues try to find each other. It takes awhile but Jo does finally show some great character growth. Mark is a lot more frustrating, he had very minimal growth and development for his character. This really was Jo's story more than Mark's though, and it's entirely Jo's POV.

I would also say that this reads more as a "in like" rather than an "in love" story. The romance isn't especially romantic or very deep. Overall, it's an interesting story, but I think it needed more depth in the romance department.

2.0 su 5 stelle Saddest thing ever... 20 agosto 2013

I really don't think I can finish this book. Over halfway through it and I can't decide if the heroine and hero should just make a suicide pact and get it over with or keep plodding along in their sad, so very, very sad lives. My word...I haven't seen anything this sad since "Melencholia". And that was the saddest movie I've ever seen. It needed to come with a psychiatric warning label for manic depressives. Much like this book should. I'm losing patience with the sad girl. And what's with the sister? "Oh, I love you, you're my best friend, I need you so badly in my life so I can practice evisceration and destroy you day after day." I'd have slapped her sister AND mother ages ago. I don't believe at this point that anything can make up for the depression I feel reading this. The author could write if she'd get out of the pit of despair and make her characters more than one dimensional. People are normally more complex. They're not all self sacrificing and they're not all evil snots. The way these people are written there is no depth. And there is absolutely no joy, so far. I'll give it ten more pages then I am done. I'll go read a nice hot shifter romance. Those always cheer me up.

My gosh I couldn't of hated Mark more! And Jo it wasn't that she was just weak but that the major times she found strength was to deal with Mark, sigh, what a waste! And after I read so many good ones in succession I just have to say I plain hated it! Good for her for standing for herself in the end but geez I really forced myself to read this one!

4.0 su 5 stelle A Sweet Simple Romance 27 settembre 2012
Di Joan A. Adamak - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

Jo was a hesitant young woman lacking confidence in herself, pining for love and not knowing how to find it, keep it, or be it because of a negligent mother who put all of her interest and love into Jo's younger sister, Emily. Jo's father died when she was young so she had little experience with the masculine personality. Because she was so withdrawn and a doormat, even her schoolmates and co-workers on the job laughed and made fun of her. She was intelligent, well educated but too shy to orally express herself and as a result, she lost out in almost every aspect of life. Once even when she was dating a young man, Ryan ,and fell in love with him, when he saw Emily, he dropped Jo and eventually asked Emily to marry him.

When Jo's father died, he left little to support her mother, who had no vocation, but was aggressive and demanded that Jo pay her rent and utilities, even though she had no use for Jo otherwise. Jo, being the doormat that she was, did so and accepted Emily and Ryan's engagement without any bitterness towards Emily. But Ryan's betrayal devastated Jo's personal image, leaving her to believe that no man would ever love her. That she was nothing.

A stranger, a tall attractive man, Mark, walked into her office seeking someone else. He immediately became attentive to Jo and began sharing lunch with her. The story centers around Jo and Mark getting to know each other, walking away several times because of lack of communication or misunderstandings, but circumstances caused both Mark and Jo to mature if they were ever to become whole. Like all good romances, this story follows the usual plot but with an indepth study of both Mark and Jo. It is well written, is an easy read and I liked it.

.....the author wrote the teaser blurb, be careful! I am not reading the book, under the assumption that the author did pen the teaser. No professional writer would turn in a teaser in such a sad state of grammar, so it must be the author's work. I don't want to pull out my hair over grammar and syntax while I'm reading, no matter how good the plot/characters might be. mb
