GIMP book for beginner!

I have zero experience in photoshop, and needed to do some photoediting. Tried to download photoshop, but apparently, it was a huge download, and the license was around $600(!).
Luckily, I was recommended GIMP, and downloaded the program in a minute, and not only that, the program cost a grand total of $0. (Yes, GIMP is free!)
There are many tutorials in the book, but I found out that for me, the most important part of the book was the "CLONING" tool, as I removed some unnecessary objects from what would otherwise be a perfect picture. I got the picture touched up, and now have a very pleased partner!

As the title says its GIMP for Absolute Beginners.
I am not an absolute beginner in the sense of needing to be shown how to use an application or concepts such as that. So the chapters in the book on that weren't really suited for me, but would be very useful for an "Absolute Beginner".
Though where the book did really start to shine for my creatively dull mind, is the basics on image manipulation and why you'd even need to perform tasks on images.
As someone whom hadn't even touched a single image editing program and had suddenly been thrust into being required to do simple manipulations with images, I wish I had had a book at the time that could have given me a path along some concepts, instead of having to pester work colleagues for information all the time.
Though since I have moved onto different areas with work its not a day to day requirement for myself, so having a book on hand which can help me refresh on the most basic image manipulations is good for me.
Having a passing interest/hobby of game development I think the digital drawing with GIMP chapters will be of use when I get back into looking at different game engines (notably isometric graphics). Especially since there is a few tutorials/walkthroughs specifically to do with pixel graphics.
All in all, it delivers on the title, which in this day and age seems rare that you get what you are told you will get.

I knew very little about GIMP and it was difficult to teach myself. Surfing YouTube videos while simultaneously manipulating a picture (all on the same screen) got a bit tricky. This book takes you through the most basic steps, from downloading/opening GIMP onto your computer to how to use the toolbars to how to do some of the most common tasks. I'm no digital artist after reading this book, but I was able to upload images, manipulate and layer them, add graphics and special effects, and save it in a variety of formats so am happy with my investment.
