Fred is a longtime friend and colleague whom I first met when my brother, a couple of friends and I were hiking down the main road on Mount Laguna, California in the early seventies. He drove a VW station wagon back in those days and offered us a ride to our campsite. We learned he was in the Air Force at the Mt Laguna radar site. Funny, because I had been giving serious thought to the Air Force at that point. It was Fred who sealed the deal! Then in 1979, while attending the Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, I was assigned a roommate. The dude sure looked and sounded familiar, so I asked him if he ever owned a VW station wagon. He said yes. Then, just to be sure, I asked if he had been stationed on Mt Laguna. Fred was my roommate! We drove back to Texas from Indiana together. And that wasn't the end of the coincidences. I went to Sondrestrom, Greenland; he went to Thule, Greenland. We were both stationed at Lackland and both of us retired as public affairs officers having first been enlisted. Talk about parallel lives! Oh...on to the book! It's a fun, playful, and interesting story about a guy I became even more acquainted with through this work. His life lessons are right on target and provide great context to the Biblical Truths he so expertly intertwines. I didn't know he had received so many cuts, bumps, and bruises growing up. Wow! A super enjoyable read from the hand of a terrific role model and great man of God. Look forward to many more.
