blu spec cd2 version doesn't blow me away, but still a slight improvement over 2007 remaster 19 marzo 2015
Di Brian Whistler - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Audio CD
Of course, this was the WR album that went gold and inadvertently their most commercial success. Not that that was a bad thing-It also happens to contain some truly timeless music that transcends period and for that matter, genre. It's just great music played by passionate and great players.

This happens to be my my 4th purchase of this title on cd. I started out with the funky Columbia rerelease, the less said about the better. Then came the 2002 reissues by Bob Belden which were much, much better- meaty but lacking in high end definition. Surpassing that further was the sacd version from Japan, although quite thin on the low end.(note: I never picked up the American sacd.) Finally I picked up the Japanese 2007 dsd boxed set that included this album. Overall, I quite liked the 2007 remasters, but they always sounded a bit thin on the bottom to me, considering the material-in fact, I pretty much felt that way about all of the previous versions, including the Japanese boxed set.

So, I took a chance and picked up a copy of the new blu spec cd2 version which turns out to be from the same Mark Wilder remaster as the 2007 dsd version. So, how does it compare to the boxed set? My feeling is the more precise process of making the disc does yield some actual quantifiable gains. Mostly I feel I am hearing the individual instruments a bit more clearly. Ambiences are very defined as is the sound stage. It's as though a transparent gauze has been lifted from the sound image, but it may not be dramatic enough to buy if you already own the 2007 remaster.

I might add I've bought most of the WR blu spec reissues. The reason I went ahead with that purchase was the first disc I picked up was Black Market, which for some inexplicable reason sounded a lot better than my previous 2007 version. This was in the original blu spec format. (It is also available in blu spec cd2.) All I know is, when I heard that disc I was very impressed. I have been less impressed with subsequent purchases. Yes, everything sounds better, but in many cases, only marginally so. Your mileage may vary.

The 5 star rating is for the music. I would with some hesitation give the audio quality 5 as well. It still lacks punch in the low end, especially on the kick and bass, But given the source material, this may be the best Heavy Weather we're ever going to hear.
