Descrizione del libro

settembre 2010
In the cabin a great fire place piled high with logs, fiercely ablaze. On either side of the broad hearthstone a hound sat on his haunches, looking gravely, as only a hound in a meditative mood can, into the glowing fire. In the center of the cabin, whose every nook and corner was bright with the ruddy firelight, stood a wooden table, strongly built and solid. At the table sat John Norton, poring over a book, a book large of size, with wooden covers bound in leather, brown with age, and smooth as with the handling of many generations. The whitened head of the old man was bowed over the broad page, on which one hand rested, with the forefinger marking the sentence. A cabin in the woods filled with firelight, a table, a book, an old man studying the book. This was the scene on Christmas Eve. Outside, the earth was white with snow, and in the blue sky above the snow was the white moon. It says here, said the Trapper, speaking to himself, it says here, Give to him that lacketh, and from him that hath not, withhold not thine hand.

5.0 su 5 stelle An Adirondack Christmas lover's dream 30 agosto 2012
Di jeannie123 - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

Holiday Tales Christmas in the Adirondacks is excellent. Being from the Adirondacks and missing the all the snowy traditions and folk tales, I was giddy when I happened upon this book on my Kindle. I own many Adirondack story books and what was especially fun about this one was that the author, Adirondack Murray, was able to portray the accent, the lingo, of the backwoodsmen. He also captured the heart and soul of the backwoodsmen according to the tales I have heard and the folks that I was privileged to know as I grew up in the heart of the Adirondacks. And then to make it a Christmas book--my favorite holiday--and to show that the true meaning of Christmas can be celebrated anywhere straight from the heart. It has snow, hearth fires, lonely cabins, friendship, and Christmas fun and love all wrapped up in the cozy heart of the Adirondack Mountains. I do not buy many books but this is a must have for an Adirondack Christmas lover.

5.0 su 5 stelle Review 7 febbraio 2013

This was written in the early 1900's. It is extremely well written. It is about an older man with a quick wit and a kindness that will fill your heart with the true spirit of Christmas.
4.0 su 5 stelle Nice Story, Hard to Understand Dialect 22 febbraio 2014
Di Matt King - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

Lovely story, but the dialect is similar to Mark Twain, and is hard to understand, especially if classic American/folk speak is not something you are familiar with. Considering it was free, I can't complain, and it was an enjoyable read.

The stories were great, and the characters were fun. I loved the accent too. I would recommend this to everybody.
