Excellent Book 2 luglio 2008

The book is full of MANY types of activities and introduces dictionary concepts and terms in a logical progression. Students could even use this book self-guided. Pages are perforated but also photocopy well.

The only problem is that answers in the answer key were arrived at using Webster's New Explorer Student Dictionary (published by Federal Street Press in cooperation with the editors of Merriam-Webster). Students using other dictionaries may come up with answers which do not match the answer key, but are still correct! As long as you know this ahead of time, this should not be a problem.

I used this book with an adult literacy student who was reading at around the 4th grade level. I highly recommend this book to others, whether they are traditional teachers, home-schoolers or adult literacy students.

I have used another dictionary skills book (Dictionary Skills Grade 4 by Teacher Created Resources) which I found to be too childish in its appearance and activities. It also falls behind the Merriam Webster book in its ability to be used by self-guided students.
