I'm an ex-CNN/BBC/60 Minutes journalist with over a decade of experience in researching, reporting and producing international news. I'm now applying those same skills to learning about and treating my histamine disorder. In two years I've gone from washed up medical mystery to independant business woman on a mission to travel the world seeking nutritional inspiration and plain old adventure. In the last year alone I spent over six months traveling Africa/North Africa, and survived!

Since starting a low histamine diet I’ve managed to withdraw from all pharmaceuticals including: anti-histamines, antidepressants, migraine, nausea, dizziness and anti-anxiety meds, and lost 77lbs/35kgs. I’ve learned to harness histamine's positives - appetite suppression, higher metabolism and energy and am now the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been.

**I changed the rating of this book after the author contacted me and in a most friendly manner addressed several of my concerns. I was impressed. I'll post again after I've had a chance to use enough recipes to get a good sense for how they work and how I feel.**

As someone who's trying to learn how to cook low-histamine, the recipes in here are inspiring, easy to do and look quite tasty. On the other hand, I wavered on buying this book due to the price...and I think I had finished reading it before the receipt was in my email inbox. Also, while not completely vegetarian, much of the protein in the book is derived from black beans and chickpeas. I've read that pulses (beans) are a bad idea for HIT (histamine intolerance), and I've seen mixed information on chickpeas, so I'm not sure what to think there. My understanding is that meat is not in and of itself bad for HIT, but the way it's handled often leads to histamine buildup--hanging to tenderize, shipping, sitting out in the counter, etc.

Overall, though, her writing style is friendly and easy to follow. The recipes do look tasty, although I'm not sure how many I'll actually end up making due to having either beans or grains in most of them. (She does offer gluten free alternatives to the wheat-based recipes, which is very nice, but low-grain eaters like myself will still have a rough time). Eating this way would require me to make two meals for dinner every night--one for me and one for my husband the fitness-nut weightlifter and children, one of whom has a medical condition that involves dietary restrictions and both of whom are picky. But as I work from home, I'll start planning my own low-histamine lunches based on this book.

As I said in the review title, at $10 this would've been a totally worthy investment. At $20... well, it's some of the only game in HIT-town, so I guess that makes the information at a premium. Still, having read it, I'm not sure if I would spend the money again or not. I'll see after a couple weeks of recipe trying.

I really enjoyed reading through all the recipes in this book. it is great to know that I may be able to eat some of these things (I have severe histamine and mast cell issues) and they won't take me long to prepare. Can't wait to try them all out. Also the big plus for me is that my family and friends never know what to cook for me when I visit them and there are some lovely recipes here I can share with them so we can all eat together again. Great book.

I recently discovered and identified my histamine intolerance which results in severe all over body itching...I was hoping for a cookbook/diet recommendation for the elimination part of my journey, I instead found many items that contain histamine and just won't work for me. I believe this is a book for those who may have it under control and are able to maintain a certain level, but not for me now.

While there are some good recipes here, many contain histamine ingredients such as fin fish, hazelnuts, yogurt, berries. There are almost no meat dishes, and the main dishes (aside from those made with fish) are carbohydrate or bean based. I didn't find much here that was helpful to me in managing my diet.

I have not been able to find very much information about Low Histamine diets and recipes so it is a good starting point but the book has very few recipes and information about low histamine foods.
