Sinossi

When Freya's sister is bitten by a horrific beast, she has only a few hours to find a cure before her sister turns into a ravenous fox demon.

With her husband Erik and the young witch Wren, Freya explores cities full of ghosts and finds survivors on the edge of madness. She finally reaches the ancient viking city of Rekavik, where she meets the deadly witch queen Skadi and the vicious warrior Leif Blackmane, but the only person who can cure the demon plague is the person who created it in the first place, a stranger who carried a sword full of captured souls, a man who was murdered five years ago.

So Freya travels deep into the wilderness to find a dead man, to save a lost king, and to wage war on an army of bloodthirsty monsters, even as the people she loves most fall prey to the plague, one by one...

Welcome to the world of AETHERIUM, where strange machines sail the seas and the skies, enormous prehistoric beasts roam the earth, and the restless dead whisper to the living. Similar to our own world in the sixteenth century, AETHERIUM explores a reality in which many of the megafauna did not die out, including terror birds and saber-toothed cats, and in which a devastating Ice Age continues to ravage Europe while Africa enjoys cool rains and the Sahara is no desert at all. But strangest of all may be the science of seeing, hearing, and controlling the souls of the dead using a golden metal with many names: sunsteel, orichalcum, and... AETHERIUM!

4.0 su 5 stelle Buon divertimento nordico. 21 febbraio 2012

Formato:Formato Kindle
This extremely enjoyable fantasy adventure with elements of horror and plenty of action continues the Other Earth story started in Europa book 1, Omar (The Lost Airship). As with all Lewis' work, strong characterization and setting make the story come to life. Clear descriptions and crisp dialog move an interesting plot along.

By keeping the plot clear and the cast of characters manageable, Lewis creates a lean fantasy not overburdened with unnecessary detail, plot lines, and characters, avoiding the pitfalls of too many of today's fantasy works.

By adding elements of horror and romance to the story, Lewis continues to grow as a writer and strengthens his already impressive story telling ability.

4.0 su 5 stelle Great Fantasy with a nordic flavor 6 marzo 2012

This book rather surprised me as I was expecting something along with a steam-punk flavor as I found in the first book in the series. Instead this particular book was pure fantasy with a very Nordic flavor. Once I got over that particular shock, I very much enjoyed FREYA THE HUNTRESS.

In fact in my opinion FREYA THE HUNTRESS is the superior book. This book has a classic fantasy plotline that draws heavily from Nordic mythology, interesting characters and a wonderful blend of horror and humor. Freya is a strong heroine whose motivations are plain. Erik, her husband, is her silent supporter. But my favorite character has to be Wren. Some of her one sided conversations with Wodan are hilarious.

I don't often come across fantasies with such a Nordic influence and this one is well worth reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys epic battles between good and evil. I rate it a 4.1.

***I received this book at no charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

4.0 su 5 stelle Good Nordic fun. 21 febbraio 2012
Di Andrea Clunes Velásquez - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

"Freya the Huntress" is the second book in this author's Europa series and it turned out to be a really good book, with an interesting plot, likable characters, a lot of tension and excitement and just the right amount of humor and drama. If you liked Omar the Immortal (Europa #1: A Dark Fantasy), you'll be happy to find him again here, being charming and helpful. Also, if you share Joseph Robert Lewis' passion for strong female main characters, you'll enjoy following the adventures of the women in this book.

So, from any and all point of view, this is a fun and interesting book worth reading and enjoying. :) Go get your copy now!

This is the second book in this series which I have enjoyed reading. It is based in another society sort of like medieval times. Fast moving, non-stop action really keeps your interest. Try this series, I think you will like it.

5.0 su 5 stelle sqweeeeeeee!!!!! 27 gennaio 2012

I've been waiting for Europa #2 for awhile. Having Omar stuck on Ysland I couldn't wait to find out more about the sun steel. Mr. Lewis has definitely created a mythology with this metal and you can't help but want to know more about it. What's even better, the stories are not about the sun steel but you get tidbits of it throughout this and all the Other Earth books.

I really enjoy the effort Mr. Lewis has put in to even using small language elements to immerse yourself in the environment more. The way the characters speak feel different on Ysland as opposed to the mainland. Given that the first book, Omar, were all characters from the mainland, this is the first time that the difference becomes apparent.

Love the new characters. Freya is now the second best bad-ass heroine next to Asha. Can't wait for the third book. We get a mythological werefox and based on the teaser for Book 3 something that sounds like frozen zombies.
