I read this book with my son (3rd grader) and I think the message was one that resonated with him. Warren's story isn't all that unusual. Most young boys have role models they look up to and aspire to be. Who doesn't want to be the next football star but sometimes there are obstacles in the way. It was special to watch it play out in a book. It also helps put in perspective that no matter what your size, there is something special about you, you just have to want it and reach for it and it's yours for that taking.
Obviously there is a lesson in trust and deceit. Yes, even at such a young age.
