Vin Smith is back with a tour de force coming-of-age novel forty years in the making. Based on the tumultuous first semester of his freshman year in college, Ride the High Waves is an astoundingly erotic study of love and loss, and the desperate search for meaning. Losing his beloved grandfather on the first day of classes, Vin meets Kathy Baumgarner, an equally lost freshman coping with deaths in her own family. Unwilling to let the young Theology major she is falling in love with sink into the depths of depression, Kathy lends a sympathetic ear as Vin recounts the extraordinary life of his New England grandfather, while at the same time working through the pain of his dysfunctional California family. The lovers find themselves at odds with authority figures at the university as they take turns sneaking inside each other's dormitory rooms. A series of breathtaking adventures draw them even closer until Kathy's childhood girlfriend, Mickie Marson, herself falls in love with the rebellious youngman. Will it be the death of a beautiful, fiery romance, or will there be an old-fashioned menage a trois?

1.0 su 5 stelle Vin Smith drowned in the high wave 18 agosto 2009

This is the worst book I have ever read. It has become a very expensive paper weight. It is obviously not a true story and, also a poor attempt at fiction! Don't waste your time on this overpriced lengthy bore.

5.0 su 5 stelle Excellent Read 9 marzo 2004

Formato:Copertina rigida
This is a really good book. Don't know when I've read another quite so refreshing. Probably one of the most original books I've ever read. The flashbacks were really nice. It was like I was there fishing with the grandfather, or making love to the two beautiful coeds. Very sexy book, yet quite erudite.

5.0 su 5 stelle Doctor Piano and the Midnight Bookworm 1 gennaio 2007
Di Shirley Hill Witt - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato:Copertina rigida
Prolific, imaginative author Vin Smith's Ride the High Waves braids biography and autobiography into a gripping journey from rowboar "Anna" to the halls of academe (shown on the cover) both voyages delivering smooth and rough sailing over time to produce the amazing renaissance man he is today. Radically unlike the 'voices' found in his dozen or more books so far (he expects to write a full fifty), this one was "forty years in the making," relying on the history of his family in Guilford, Connecticut and his brilliant mother's recollections of a childhood on the dock, and then through years of doubt and thrills as a young man plunged into a Christian fundamentalist institution where he found it unwilling or unable to reach his needs. Now some of the lessons learned are shared on his Midnight Bookworm digital radio program where his humor and intelligence fully engage us, enticing us to read all the rest...and those to come.
