Sinossi

George Randolph, the oldest brother and patriarch of the family, needs someone to wash, cook, and clean for the brothers on their Texas ranch. Rose Thornton accepts that job. She arrives at the homestead to find six men ranging in ages from six to twenty-four years old. The house looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years, the clothes practically stand up and beg to be washed, and everything in the kitchen is black with soot and grease. She soon discovers she's in the midst of a truly dysfunctional family. The brothers don't seem to like anybody, and that includes each other. They don't much like Rose, either. Once they learn her father was an officer in the Union Army, they vote to send her back to town.

George Randolph was an officer in the Confederate army. He feels responsible for his family, but wants to rejoin the army, the only time when his life was ordered and predictable. Rose sets out to convince George that he's not only a father figure to his brothers, he really wants a family of his own. With her. At the same time seeks ways to repair the fragile bonds that hold this family together.

5.0 su 5 stelle One of My Favorites! 2 giugno 2000
Di April M. Love - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato:Copertina flessibile
This book is one of my favorites of the Seven Brides series. Rose refuses to put up with any guff from 7 men who have been living rough lives for years as cattlemen without any woman around to "tame" them.
In the beginning, she's so spunky, that when the brothers show up for dinner and refuse to wash after a hard, sweaty, dirty day in the saddle, she up and tips the food-laden table over, to show how much she won't put up with any shenanigans.
I just love this book! I'm so glad that the publisher decided to continue to publish the book and make it available to a new set of readers who missed it before.

5.0 su 5 stelle A wonderful start to this series... 19 settembre 2005
Di ThisThatNEverything - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

Description from the back of the book:

Wanted: A woman to cook, clean, and wash for seven men.

To penniless, friendless Rose Thornton, the advertisement seemed like an answer to her prayers, and the incredibly handsome man who hired her seemed like a dream come true. But when she first set eyes on her hero's ramshackle ranch in the wilds of the Texas brush country and met his utterly impossible brothers, Rose decided even George's earth-shattering kisses weren't compensation enough for the job ahead of her.

Never in her life had she seen a place more in need of a woman's touch, or men more in need of a civilizing influence. The Randolph brothers were a wild bunch-carving and empire out of the rugged land, fighting off rustlers and Mexican bandits-and they weren't about to let any female change their ways...not until George laid down the law and then lost his heart to the beguiling spitfire who'd turned all their lives upside down.

*This book had non-stop action. It was great & I can't wait to read the next 6. Highly recommended.

4.0 su 5 stelle Intriguing characters 30 novembre 2008

Wow. What an intriguing story. I was pleasantly surprised at how well I liked it. The heroine wasn't the least bit annoying as I've found to be the case in most books by Greenwood. It felt like there was something missing in the hero; I can't even begin to name what it was. But, all in all, I liked the story, loved the characters--especially Hen--found the conflict interesting, and while the ending felt a little forced, I even liked it.

This story contains graphic love scenes.

I really enjoyed this book and I am glad I finally bought it. I skipped it several times because it made me think it was going to be some imitation remake of my favorite movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. While the beginning of the book did have some very similar scenes ~ like the flipping the table over ~ but the rest of the book stands on its own.
I only gave it 4 stars because if I had one complaint it was that the man vs. self conflict with the hero was very hard for me to rationalize. I just don't see how he saw any of his father in himself. And after the drawn out inner turmoil throughout the entire book, and all of the problems it created for Rose and George it just seemed unnatural how he suddenly got over everything. I really just think there should have been more revelation about the specific things his father did to make them hate him earlier in the book. It would have made the conflict a little more believable.
In the end though I really enjoyed this book and how real everything else seemed. The love story felt natural and like an honest progression not like it all happened overnight. Well worth the time and money. Now I'm off to read Fern.
One last compliant not on this book but the series. Two of the seven books are missing on kindle. Why on Earth would they do that now I'm going to miss Monty and Jeffs story or I'm going to have to "gasp" read an paper book again.
