What goes on inside your grant reviewer's head? Understanding this is the key to avoiding rejection and getting your next grant funded. You may wonder...What is my reviewer really looking for? Did they reject my grant just because of politics? Why did one reviewer love my grant and another one hate it? How can I revise my grant to make it more fund-able?

The answers lie within a four step process reviewers go through when they read your grant proposal - a process most reviewers aren't even aware they're doing. If you gloss over one of these steps - or worse, leave it out all together - your grant will be rejected, and you may get cryptic reviews back that don't explain why it was rejected or help you avoid another rejection.

Four Steps to Funding gives you the simple process that will clarify your thinking, organize your proposal, and address reviewer objections before you submit your grant. Going far beyond the typical "word-smithing" and fill-in-the-blank examples of other grant writing books, 4 steps to funding gets into the mind of your reviewer and provides techniques for persuading him/her of the value of your work, your own credibility, and your approach.

Written in an easy to read, engaging style, the concepts in this book are critical, for writing NIH or NSF grants. However, the concepts are easily applicable to Foundation, SBIR, or even business or non-profit proposals.

It is your turn to crack the code, by learning the four steps that your next grant proposal must have in order to succeed. Your proposal will go beyond providing the facts and will get your reviewer excited about your work, and ready to fund it!

Morgan Giddings, PhD is a professor who has written over $23 million worth of funded grant proposals, primarily competitive NIH science grants, but also business and community grants. She now teaches the concepts of grant writing to people all over the globe.

5.0 su 5 stelle Not your ordinary grant writing book! 15 marzo 2013
Di Kristina - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato:Formato Kindle
Most grant writing books give detailed instructions about what the grant writer should do. "4 Steps to Funding" places an equal emphasis on understanding the reviewer. Dr. Giddings teaches you how to catch the reviewer's attention, and keep it throughout the proposal. I have already used the 4 steps to significantly improve the clarity of my proposals. I never thought I'd say a grant writing book is entertaining, but I must admit I couldn't put it down!

5.0 su 5 stelle A high-yield yield read 15 marzo 2013

The material in this book transformed my approach to grant writing. I've taken grant-writing workshops offered by my university in the past and also read other material on grant-writing tips. However, those usually focused more on technique and were only of marginal benefit. This book gave me a whole new perspective grounded in a clear understanding of what reviewers are really looking for. It is a high-yield read.

5.0 su 5 stelle Very helpful book 3 aprile 2012

This book is written by a scientist who knows what's up with research grant writing. It is more than a guide - it is an eye-opener in a sense that it helps an applicant to take perspective of a reviewer. The book is full of explicit examples, sharp insights and bright, optimistic spirit. It is, in my opinion, a powerful tool in writing grants, especially for young scientists. Concise and clever, easy to read.

5.0 su 5 stelle Excellent! 19 marzo 2013

This book is to grant writing as the Elements of Style by Strunk and White is to English writing. If you think your grant writing attempts have been hit-and-miss and you don't know what is behind the "fate", this book will help you get out of the fog. In particular, it is helpful to know how successful marketing strategies can be applied to grant writing. Highly recommended!

I have read many books about grant writing and I can tell you this is not the ordinary book you'll find out there devoting liters of ink on how to organize the data you present on a grant application. Instead, this book helps you to understand what must be done (as well as what's not to be done) when writing an application and how you should focus your proposal in order to increase your chances of getting the funds you are looking for. It is very easy to read but make no mistake, it moves you to take a careful look about what you are doing and that's it's real value. Very recommendable.
