The Sun Salutation - Surya Namaskar (Sanskrit) - was originally practiced at sunrise or shortly before sunrise while facing towards the sun. This exercise, based on a cycle of movements combined with breathing sequences stimulates the endocrine system and the chakras, the energy centers of the physical body through which Prana or life energy is being channeled into our body. So all energies become well balanced and we feel fresh and full with verve. All joints get moved, all muscles contract and become extended. Nowadays we practise the sun salutation not only after getting up but similarly at other times of our daily schedule.
