Sinossi

"Issue Six of The Big Click kicks off with “Pure Southern” by James Robert Smith, in which a traumatized ex-soldier guarding a warehouse takes on the mobsters who want to rob it. For our second story we have “Big Davey Joins the Majority” by Barry Graham, which begins with the line “I fired a shotgun twenty years ago. The ricochet hit me today.” and just gets better from there, if you can believe it. Finally we have “Denny” by Kit Reed, a heartbreaking tale of two parents and their son who have three very distinctive perspectives on family life, the threat of teenage violence, and what it means when kids grow up.

5.0 su 5 stelle You Won't Be Sorry... 16 marzo 2012
Di Lincoln Crisler - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato:Formato Kindle
The Big Click is brand-new. It's a crime magazine. They have a nice-looking website and a distribution model I like: you can buy the whole issue right now, or you can read a different article or story each week for free as it's released. I read the first story for free before buying the issue, and I always encourage people to do that when they can. I picked up the issue on the strength of that first story, and I'm not sorry I did, I'll tell you that.

Angel of Hospitality lands somewhere in the 3.5-4 range out of 5, if we want to play the numbers game. I love the voice author Ken Bruen uses, the nontraditional sentence structure, the plot--everything. The one part that grated on me--you might not even notice, and I can't say much without spoiling the piece--has to do with a way of ending stories and a narrative perspective that just don't match up to me. But Bruen totally saved the story for me with everything else he did.

Triangulation by Anonymous-9 is about a middle-aged woman who hatches an elaborate scheme in order to show her gullible friend the error of her ways. It's definitely a modern story, as opposed to Angel, which could have happened fifty years ago or yesterday. It's told from the perspective of all three of its characters and ends on a believable, satisfying note.

The issue is fleshed out with a creative essay by Tom Piccirilli and an interview with Joe Lansdale, conducted by Piccirilli.

4.0 su 5 stelle An Exciting New Source for Noir! 16 marzo 2012

I was really impressed by the premiere issue of THE BIG CLICK. The fiction was really good and just the right length each time. One gets the feeling that anything is possible in this little mag, as long as it is dark and excellent. I can't wait for the next issue!

A new journal that has started off brilliantly, and will surely make a big impact on the world of noir! I loved the unique voice of Tom Picarilli's story and the totally unlooked for twist if twist you could call it. I am sad to say I have never read him before but that will definitely change! Ken Bruen is an old favourite and his story doesn't disappoint either, I find his language getting more and more interesting, brushstrokes of dialog with a careening plotline that I am entirely jealous of. And the interview with Joe Lansdale? Anonymous 9? Like chocolate cake on my birthday...so get yourself a copy

4.0 su 5 stelle About Damn Time 28 marzo 2012
Di Robert N. Lee - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

Other genres being more than well-served by quality indie online efforts, crime fiction has waited a long time for likes of, say, Chizine or Clarkesworld. Whether The Big Click is that remains to be seen, but Mamatas and Tolbert's effort is off to a rousing start.

The ebook version could use a clickable TOC, and the stories a little short as yet, but from vets like Bruen and Pic and newcomers as welcome Anonymous-9, very welcome. Will keep buying and reading.
