5.0 su 5 stelle An absolute page-turner! Mr. Romero's has written an amazing book. 16 aprile 2014

"The Colors of Eden" is a bravely honest and harrowing look at childhood dreams, abandonment, abuse, despair and, ultimately, love and redemption. Mr. Romero's story is simply amazing. Richly told, he captures the sights, sounds and flavors of Mexico -- his happy childhood (all too brief) in Tijuana; of being sent to live with an abusive aunt in Mexico City after his parents separate; and his escape from her cruelty by running away -- and his encounters with even greater cruelties as he tries to make his way back to Tijuana and his father.
This book should be made into a movie. It should be required reading in schools. It is a great book.
5.0 su 5 stelle Elegant and haunting 14 aprile 2014

The simple elegance of Fernando Romero's writing makes the haunting story of his life as a poor, abused and desperately searching young boy, and his triumph as a man of accomplishment, all that more powerful.
It is at times funny, raw, pathetic, joyous. He was not a perfect kid and doesn't present himself as a perfect man. But he is a hero, a solid and good guy, someone to have a drink with, to be friends with, someone for those of us who do not know him personally to admire and respect.
His story will teach you, will inspire you, will move you. So very glad I read this book.
5.0 su 5 stelle Beautifully written memoir 22 marzo 2014

This story of a boy becoming a man is inspiring. It will make you think again when you see someone on the street struggling with the common problems we see there. You don’t know how they ended up there. You don’t know their personal stories or potential. This beautifully written memoir tells one of those stories. Thanks to a strong personal sense of morality, and the kind and generous help of many people encountered along the way, one runaway boy in Mexico becomes a successful musician, journalist, and now author.
5.0 su 5 stelle A gripping tale of the writer's youth 9 marzo 2014

A very gripping and moving story, I would highly recommend this book. I actually think, despite some disturbing parts as mentioned by the other reviewing, it is appropriate for older children (say 11 and older). I think having a realization of what it was really like for someone who was orphaned and without support can profoundly impact someone at a young age to call out such inhumane treatment of others and fight against such treatment for the rest of their life
5.0 su 5 stelle Overcoming adversity in a big way 27 febbraio 2014
Di John H. McLaren - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato:Copertina flessibile|Acquisto verificato Amazon
The Colors of Eden is a wonderful if unsettling read. Fernando Romero had an amazing life as a youngster, traveling around his native Mexico, sleeping in doorways. living hand-to-mouth, and somehow emerging stronger than ever, headed for a successful career as a writer, journalist and family man in the U.S .. This very well written book covers Romero from the ages of 12 to 20. While this gripping story is hard to put down, it’s not for kids, with graphic descriptions of events such as a gang rape in a prison in Matamoros. But in the end it’s an inspiring tale of adversity overcome.
