I teach encaustic painting and have been looking for an easy-to-understand book to suggest to my students that would cover all of the basics of my two day introduction class. This is it!! If you are new to encaustic, start with this book. As a teacher for R&F Paints, Daniella is well schooled in the latest safety procedures, tools and materials of this addictive process. Her clear and personable style makes this a true workshop-in-a-book...but than there is a DVD to even bring the teacher into your own studio. As an someone experienced with the media, I enjoyed all of the interesting ways that the author stretched my thinking and challenged my creativity. I especially like the layout. Each new chapter is introduced by a visual montage that made me want to jump right in.

I have almost every recent book on encaustic painting techniques and this is the best yet. The cover is luscious, looking just like an encaustic painting, making you want to open and explore the contents. The organization is intuitive, with comprehensive information and instruction. The accompanying images wonderfully illustrate and complement the text, inspiring the reader with Daniella's superb handling of the medium. You can't wait to try each technique and are given all the information you need to do so. In addition to the encaustic student, this book would be very appealing to any contemporary art-lover who will cherish the pages for their beautiful images. And the included DVD is a great bonus -icing on the cake! Fabulous book at a great price!
