Life is Cruel for the Hunted...

Thane is a typical teenage boy. Typical of course for Animar, a fascinating yet perilous medieval world where all beings have two forms: one human and one animal. Thane's life takes an unexpected turn when his animal form becomes something never before seen - a creature with incredible power that can shift the natural balance of life and bring hope to the hunted. Elsewhere, in the rancid depths of a carnivore lair, an evil force named Fatalis who is destined to rule Animar learns of this new threat to his dominion and builds a massive army with one simple yet sinister purpose - death to any who dare oppose him. With time running out, Thane's people must turn to powerful yet reclusive strangers for help, beings who have thrived in isolation for centuries yet are now forced to take sides in an incredible war that will determine the fate of their world. The Realms of Animar is a story about fear and hope, love and loss, death and survival, all taking place in a perilous world never before described.

4.0 su 5 stelle Enjoyable read 25 maggio 2012

The Realms of Animar is an enjoyable read, one that will appeal to teens who are fans of fantasy and science fiction.

Set in a world where people have two forms, one human and one animal, this is the story of Thane, a teenage boy whose life is suddenly turned upside down when his animal form unexpectedly transforms into something never seen before. Filled with immense power, he now holds the key to the future of Animar and to saving his people from struggle and oppression. But Fatalis, the evil force who plans to rule Animar, learns about Thane and creates an army to destroy him and anybody who gets in the way of his plan. In order to fight Fatalis, Thane seeks the help of other beings, the Avians and Aquans. In a twist of fate, the hunters and the hunted must get together to save their world.

Though the beginning was kind of slow, with a lot of information being presented by dialogue, I was intrigued with the story enough to keep reading. The author does a fairly good job in creating his medieval world--which, by the way, doesn't have dragons, elves or magic like so many other books in this genre nowadays--and dividing it into five realms: Herbivore, Carnic, Avian, Aquan and Reptilian. I enjoyed the action, battle scenes, and watching Thane grow into a brave, fearless warrior and hero. Though it has some violence, the language and other aspects make this book appropriate for the lower young adult crowd and even for middle graders. Recommended for readers 11 & up.

5.0 su 5 stelle A unique take on moderen day fantasy 6 luglio 2012

With influences from pop culture such as the anamorphs (as mentioned by another reviewer) a small amount of Harry Potter, and books such as Lord of The Rings, Realms of Animar is anything but a copy. With a unique story line and a plot that keeps you glued to the page it s a great read. The book begins with a group of polymorphs and progresses into the multiple realms of the fantasy world and focuses on one individual, Thane. A great read for young adults, and even pre-teens it is a refreshing change from the vampire laden fantasy books that have become so popular.

5.0 su 5 stelle An Animal Kingdom Fantasy 13 giugno 2012

Imagine a world where humans can transform into animals. How would they live? How would they organize as a society? Welcome to The Realms of Animar, a wonderful fantasy story that explores this very premise.

Realms of Animar follows a teenage boy who happens to be the son of the king of the herbivore village of Arvyndale. The village is a refuge for herbivores who seek shelter and protection from carnivores. Soon we learn of aquans and avians as well. Each animal prefers to live amongst its own animalkind, but conflict exist between carnivores and herbivores that play out in the form of predators and prey.

One day, the carnivores finally discover the location of Arvyndale, and the carnivores, lead by a man named Fatalis, moves to amass an army to crush and destroy this village. How can the residents of Arvyndale hope to survive?

The author devotes tremendous time and energy going over the mechanics and limitations of "polymorph" (although I think the better term is animorph, since poly implies multiple forms). He does a fantastic job exploring the four different animal realms in Animar, with some very interesting takes on the aquan and avian realms.

The Realms of Animar is a story of a courageous teenager embracing his destiny to protect all that he loves. The book merits a place on your fantasy bookshelf.

The novel is set in a world were people have two forms, one animal and one human. The world is divided into five realms: Herbivore, Carnic, Avian, Aquan, and Reptilian. The main character is Thane, a boy whose animal form is turning into something that no one has seen before... something of legend. Hopefully Thane and his new animal form will be able to help the people of Avryndale to face off against the evil force of Fatalis that will desecrate the land of Animar if he is not stopped. I felt that Thane was not the only main character in the story that has to step up and help in the fight. You are introduced to seven unlikely heroes who travel to the other realms to see if they would lend a hand to Avryndale so they will have a chance against Fatalis' army.

The story drew me in right away, had me wondering what type of animal Thane was becoming, what types of powers will he have, and wanting to learn more about the other realms and the people that dwell in them. Through out the novel you find yourself hoping the multiple Realms can put aside there differences, come together, and defeat evil for the benefit of Animar. The author does a wonderful job describing the multiple realms and the medieval time era that the story takes place, which has no dragons, castles, elves, or sorcery and made it a very refreshing read.

I fell in love with all the characters and their stories. The novel is full of adventure, endearing love stories, and epic battle scenes. You will love this book no matter what age you are and there is a little something for everyone to connect to. The end left me on the edge of my seat full of questions and wanting more. Hopefully I'll get it. :)
