Sinossi

620 pages. In four parts.

Tomb of the Lost is an action/adventure novel that spans 2300 years.
Babylon, Persia 323bc.
On a bed a man lays dying. Alexander the great, King, the Lion of Macedon has a mysterious fever. He became king at twenty, dying at thirty three, having conquered the known world. Following his death his General and friend Ptolemy takes the body and inters it into a magnificent tomb in Alexandria, Egypt. The very city Alexander founded.
Two thousand three hundred years later and the leader of Germany Adolf Hitler who is a great collector of antiquities orders the sarcophagus, lost two thousand years before by Julius Caesar's legionaries, to be found and brought to Berlin.
Hitler assigns a team of his Wehrmacht commanded by a General and his Colonel and a team of SS led by a fanatical Major to locate it.
With their mission a success the Germans descend on the port town of Gabes, Tunisia just as the town is about to be over run by the British and as the battle for North Africa reaches its brutal climax the sarcophagus is lost once again leaving only one man alive to tell the tale.
That man is Alfred Dennis.
Nearly seventy years later and marine archaeologist Natalie Feltham and her team with the help of Peter Dennis, a journalist and grandson of Alfred Dennis, make the greatest discovery in modern archaeology.
Now it's a race against time for Natalie and her team as dark powers from Germany's Nazi past try to take what is rightfully hers.

4.0 su 5 stelle I like the story so far, but... 21 luglio 2012

To be fair I only read the sample chapters of this book. I found the story somewhat entertaining up to the point I read but I'm still debating on whether or not I will buy the book. The price is certainly fair enough. My complaint is not in the story but in the formatting and punctuation. I found the lack of indentation of paragraphs slightly irritating as well as punctuation errors and some misspelled words. I'm not referring to the differences in English/American spellings, but words or typos such as 'tlak' instead of 'talk.' Another irritation was capitalized nouns where there shouldn't be capitalization. I'm not that picky usually but there were so many errors that it became distracting. If I found myself irritated and distracted in the sample reading, I just wonder if I would be a basket case before I read half way through the book. I give it 4 stars for entertainment and 3 stars for grammar, but unfortunately it's not possible to give 3.5 stars. However, the scale is tipped toward 4 stars because I appreciate the efforts of the author and for keeping the price so low.

5.0 su 5 stelle Very much worth it 3 luglio 2012

An exceptionally good book; Written in such a way that through each section, one truly feels they are 'there'. It doesn't just build upon the story, it pulls you into the period with it. The ending was, well, unexpected, and in a very good way. After reading dozens of books in this basic genre, one may begin to see a 'pattern' in the writing and know how they will turn out, but that is not the case here.

3.0 su 5 stelle Worth a read 23 agosto 2012

Firstly, let me say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Good plot, good character development with believable characters, I got quite engaged in each of the main characters in the story.

Now for the 'speed bumps'......I found the tendency to jump from one place in history to another quite suddenly a bit disjointed. There didnt seem to be any closure for the story outlined up to the point of the time change in the story and I was left wondering what happened to those people, particularly Johnny Larder. The author had spend so much time building up his character and then 'poof' he was never to be heard of again in the story. The same happened with other main characters as well.

Also, as one previous reviewer commented, the story did tend to 'run on a bit' and didnt seem to have much bearing on the central theme. The stories in the different time scene changes seemed at times to be different books or stories 'stitched together' until they got back to the central theme, Alexanders lost tomb. Nonetheless, I enjoyed those separate sections for what they were, good storytelling.

Oh, and as I have commented in other reviews before, watch out for spelling mistakes. There are a few later in the novel that detract from the story and left me wondering if the author was in a rush to finish or had not properly proof read before formatting for Kindle.

And in closing, the question that was left on my lips at the end of the novel was 'what happened to Johnny Larder? Did he get to return to England and marry his sweetheart?. Alf got closure, so did Koenig but not Johnny. So, Mister Author, please put me out of my misery and let me know.

All in all, a decent read and recommended. And dont worry what some of the negative reviewers might say, it was worth every cent of the princely sum of 99 cents.

Cheers
