Triple Shot of Unnatural Nature [Formato Kindle]

When Joe R. Lansdale was writing horror, it often had the same style of Texas snakes and country folks and some really, really weird things happening. Tonia delivers a strong tri-fecta of stories in this collection. She has that all too rare gift of making a story come alive and even in a short piece the characters grow and develop just like Lansdale.

I'll be working my way through her other "Triple Shot" collections quite happily. As a fan of trains, her Steam Punk work is also on my TBR list.

My only counsel would be to ease up on the purple prose. In spots it's over worded and this detracts from the style of the story. High falutin' language doesn't gel well with simple folks in a country story.

Tonia Brown has the ability to bring you into her stories so you feel like you are there going through it with the characters. "Triple Shot of Unnatural Nature" was so well written that it gave me goose bumps and made cring at what people might be capable of. Tonianis a great author

Two words: pleasantly surprised. Wait... better yet is a three word description: VERY pleasantly surprised! Since purchasing my Kindle Fire 2 months ago, I've been on a full throttle reading binge. That being said, I don't set my expectations terribly high. There are a ton of authors struggling to be heard who have great ideas and obvious passion, but often lack in the area of execution. "Triple Shot Of Unnatural Nature" delivered the goods where so many others fall flat. Why? Tonia Brown understands that a well-thought plot is nothing without strong characters to hold our interest. Ms. Brown possesses a unique style of writing that puts a colorful spin on things, often inspiring a giggle. Ex: "The shed was locked as tight as a virgin on the night before her wedding". Clever! I'll admit, this collection would have benefited from a strong editor. There were some duplicate words that appeared more than once in a small passage, as well as some minor typos that were distracting for the briefest moment. But as a writer myself, I chalk that up to self-editing. With so many quirky ideas bouncing around in her noggin, it's understandable that this promising author might overlook a few small problems in the script. These stories are one-of-a-kind, not at all the same tired depictions of the classic monsters we've all come to mimic and predict. Like I said, I wasn't expecting much (No offense, Tonia). I didn't plan on leaving a review, but this collection took me by surprise. It was witty; the language was spot-on with the "show, don't tell" rule of thumb, and most importantly: It put me in a good mood!! Don't we all want that when we sit down to read? My advice: Grab this e-book right away! I'm being 100% honest, it was insanely good.
