This book is meant to be read by, and is intended for, super-seniors themselves. The author, at 80, is a super-senior. But it is also a guide and a story for the whole family, specifically the adult children and the caregivers of super-seniors. The readily-doable program is based on three pillars, all equally important: (1) safe exercises; (2) healthy, balanced eating; and (3) medical awareness of “potentially-avoidable” diseases and preventive tools.

L'autore

Juan O'Callahan is a former U.S. Marine Corps fighter pilot, with a subsequent career in industry. As an entrepreneur and business consultant, he founded two successful companies. He became active in healthful living for seniors on retirement, and changed his own lifestyle regimen. He is an AFAA-certified personal fitness trainer, a member of the National Council on Strength & Fitness, and founder of Juan's Wellness for Super-Seniors fitness classes. He is a regular long-distance runner and has finished seven marathons as a super-senior. Juan has been an accomplished cook for fifty years and adapted his personal recipes to more nutritious food preparation after study and attending total wellness clinics such as the Pritikin Longevity Center in California and Florida.

At times all of us feel powerless to prevent the change aging has on our body and mind. Juan O'Callahan's book, Wellness for Super-Seniors, is a template, or pathway, to take back control. As a physician, I believe there are actions we can take that prevent injury, illness, and cognitive decline, regardless of how old we are. Juan O'Callahan has an inspirational outline for fitness and diet, honed from experience with seniors, which gives us hope that aging can be graceful.

"Irish"(our nickname)and I flew in the training command and subsequently at El Toro,CA. He was best man at our wedding. We have stayed in touch ever since,and my wife and I acted as initial guinea pigs for his exercise classes. We were greatly impressed, and even more so when his book was published. It is very inclusive and easily digested. The explanations are clear, complete, and straightforward. He is an expert trainer. Following his suggestions will be of great benefit to the reader.

Not only is this book for seniors, but everyone can benefit from ideas on eating better and exercising to keep fit.
Our goal, as we age, is to keep strong and healthy to guard against future illnesses or mishaps that could be prevented. We found the stretching techniques Juan shows the best. Apparently , Juan 's in-depth research has lead him to a wellness program that he has condensed and simplified ,with himself as a great example. Giving the book to loved ones as a gift has really been fun and with good response.
