Remember Jack Kerouac's book, On The Road? 22 gennaio 2014
Di Michael Hicks Thompson - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina flessibile
I bought it and enjoyed it very much. Remember Jack Kerouac's On The Road. Well, this is 'on the road' with Jimmy Hall and Bill Eggleston. I know both of them. And I can say that the storytelling is as wild and wooly as these two characters. If you want to take five minutes to see what Hall looks like now in his seventies, search in iTunes for Skip Town, a short film by Jimmy's great nephew, Banner Gwin. It's a trip.

Bought it, loved it. Jimmy Hall has led a fascinating life and crossed paths with a ridiculous number of the people who defined an era.

A coming-of-age-and into-adulthood autobiography, seen through eyes akin to Paolo's in Tennessee William's "The Roman Spring Of Mrs. Stone," and a insider's look into corners people aren't usually privy to. The writing can be compared to a good primitive painting, as in a Henri Rousseau or a Grandma Moses. I would recommend it as a nice summer read.

Author, author! 23 settembre 2013

An absolutely delightful read with a Devil-may-care attitude that could only have been written by a true Southerner!
Jimmy Hall brings to life an era gone by with the eye of a true writer. Capturing the nuance and complexity of the
"Miz-sippy" Delta with loving, soulful insight, this book is dripping with a world-view that proves you can take the boy outta the South, but you can't take the South outta the boy.

A captivating read that plays like a series of vignettes, this refreshingly honest memoir entertains as it lays bare a sense of nostalgia for what is quite possibly America's most misunderstood region. In the hands of Jimmy Hall, the indelible longing most Southerners are born with is made manifest and called by name as the author confesses his story.
