These controllers are extremelly versitle and work with everything, even my linux batocera setup. Firmware upgrades are available from the manufacturers website, with software, plug in and away it goes, updating and keeping things running great. With the same software, you can also program in layouts which are switchable between modes. The sticks feel great and smooth, the buttons are perfect. I bought two in grey for the Switch and PC and another two in black for my batocera setup. All over perfect, I've dropped them a few times (the grey ones) and never had a problem, they just work!

Gut verarbeitet, liegt gut in der Hand und die Hall Sensoring Sticks ermöglichen durch das Fehlen einer Dead-Zone schnelle und präzise Controlls. Buttons, Trigger und Bumper geben ein gutes Feedback.
Einige Nutzer auf Reddit bemängeln eine hohe Input-latency in Bezug auf Onlinegaming über die Switch, vor allem bei FPS's. Ich nutze den Controller ebenfalls für die Switch und für Spiele, in denen Schnelligkeit und Präzision wichtig sind ( Nuclear throne, OXTO, Dusk, Crimson clover, etc ) und ich habe überhaupt keine Probleme. Zugegeben: ich spiele nicht online und wenn es um Onlinegaming geht, vor allem competetiv, ist die Switch die schlimmste Plattform, die man wählen könnte. Vor allem in Bezug auf Input lag, egal welchen Controller man wählt.
Wie gesagt: für local Gaming ist das Ding großartig. Oh, und das D-Pad ist auch gut.

Prácticamente todo en este mando es bueno. Quizás imperdonable para algunos sería la latencia, que es realmente muy muy bajita (yo he medido aproximadamente 90hz en bluetooth, pero sé que tampoco llega a 125hz conectado por cable). Para la mayoría de los títulos esto no es grave, ya que no hay muchas actividades en videojuegos que necesiten de actualizaciones a cada 0.01s. Juegos de lucha continúan capados a 60fps (por lo tanto todo lo que tenga por lo menos una latencia de 16ms es aceptable, pero si la latencia es mejor, preferible... aunque hay tanto campeón en torneos con mandos bluetooth jugando de manera inalámbrica los cuales tienen jittering de más de 50~90ms ocasionalmente, que no sé hasta que punto esto es relevante). Cuando no son juegos de lucha, son FPS y ahí la latencia importaría para el Analog Stick que saca provecho de actualizaciones constantes. El tema es que todos los FPS terminan teniendo implementaciones son smoothing de updates (y aim assist) que hace con que mismo que se pierda información, la diferencia entre 0.01 y 0.1ms no es grave. Son raras las circunstancias donde se nota la diferencia, y todas las personas que escucháis por la web diciendo que lo notan, no tienen ni idea de que hablan. Es placebo. Delays se notan en la orden de los 1f a 2f en juegos a 60fps, pero si el valor en ms es inferior a eso, es bastante complicado notarlo y explicar exactamente porqué en esta reseña no tiene sentido. Va mucho más allá que ejemplos específicos académicos porque la forma como se analizaría la percepción de sería en un blind-test y con ejemplos reales (pragmáticos) y no ejemplos super específicos sabiendo la gente que está usando en aquél momento (donde el efecto placebo entra en causa).

Hasta aquí, no habrían problemas con este mando. Es realmente fenomenal en ergonomia, feeling de los botones y sticks, y su peso (que podría ser más ligero pero la batería le sube).

Donde está la gravedad? El d-pad.
El d-pad de este mando sufre de los mismos problemas que otros mandos que sigan el mismo formato lanzados por 8bitdo (Pro 2, SN30).
Los problemas son la sensibilidad de las diagonales (esta parte es subjectiva, ya que hay gente que lo prefiere así), pero aún peor... el hecho de que el molde del d-pad frota con el recorte del mismo en la carcasa del mando. Esto pasa porque el molde se mueve bastante dentro del mando. Es normal que haya alguna holgura y que se puedan mover (aunque estén asientes en la silicona que hace contacto con la película de motherboard), pero en el caso de los mandos de 8bitdo, tienen de tal forma holgura, que terminan excediendose con frecuencia, a punto de quedar demasiado posicionados en una dada dirección. No solo eso como ocasionalmente el propio molde del d-pad tiene un exceso de plástico en una de las direcciones. Cuando eso pasa, esa dirección hace más ruido, se siente rara, y ocasionalmente queda presa a la carcasa.

Hay muchas soluciones presentadas por los compradores del mando. Sea poner cinta adhesiva en los contactos, sea recortar anillos de papel para pegarlos ahí, sea lijar el plástico de la carcasa para que no frote... Pero todas las soluciones son invasivas en un mando que ya ha tenido bastantes iteraciones por parte de 8bitdo sin que se hayan dado al trabajo de arreglarlo. Sin contar que es un mando relativamente frágil para abrir (comparado con un mando genérico como dualshock 4, por ejemplo).

Mucha gente a reclamado a 8bitdo este problema y la compañía gentilmente les pide que hagan un recambio. Infelizmente los recambios sufren todos del mismo problema porque no es un defecto de un mando en diez. Es un defecto de todos ellos por la forma como está pensado la construcción interior del mando.

Si el d-pad no te importa (porque no juegas a ningún juego retro, porque no lo usas en fighting games, etc), aún así puede afectarte. Yo literalmente sólo teniendo que usarlo en un FPS o 3rd Person (como un Soulslike), al tener que cambiar algo del inventario con el D-Pad, sentía que se quedaba preso el botón. El tacto raro te distrae.

Una pena, al final, porque por todo lo demás es sin duda el mejor mando que he utilizado hasta hoy (ya habiendo adquirido docenas de ellos a lo largo de los años de diferentes marcas).
De notar que ergonomia y tacto son siempre temas subjetivos, y tampoco tengo idea de la durabilidad a largo plazo del mando (solo podría esperar que me durara por lo menos 3 años antes de que los botones empezasen a dar problemas).

Brand new, straight of the box, testing the triggers… and the RT is only registering 82% on a full pull of the trigger. LT is working as intended with every pull.

It registers 100% if you press it down in a very specific way, on the tip of the trigger, straight on… and way harder than you should ever really have to. You can feel the trigger mechanism pushing further than normal into the rubber contact inside just to get it to register all the way.

There was a noticeable disparity in feel and operation of the RT when compared to the LT under normal use. I knew there was an issue with it as soon as I had it in my hands. It just felt that bit different to press than the LT trigger.

I could effectively dial it out somewhat with a large 20% cut to the max limit of the trigger action in the 8bitdo ultimate software, but it’s only going to get worse over time I think.

After a few hours of research online, it’s apparently a known problem and common hardware fault on nearly all 8bitdo’s analogue triggers in their product line. The subpar trigger mechanism design cuts into the rubber contact over time, and sometimes they are misaligned or not correctly shaped straight from the factory. I did own an SN30 Pro Plus, and that did have some issues, but this wasn’t one I’d come across before. Saying that, I only really ever used it on a Switch when I had it, so never really used the full 100% of the triggers to notice if it ever had the same issue. The triggers seem the same design so it’s a likely possibility.

The Hall Effect sticks appear to be a decent upgrade on paper. They perform well so far, feel accurate enough and are very similar to traditional ALPS sticks to use. Hopefully they prove better at limiting potential stick drift as time goes on.

The rest of the pad feels quite good, about the usual for membranes. Good face buttons, good d-pad… though in my experience they all tend to get a little mushy after a while as the rubber membranes begin to wear out. LB & RB are also serviceable, just fine, but not the most tactile feeling. Start and select buttons still feel pretty bad though, and I’d much prefer something less archaic and mushy to press. I get that it’s retro, but I’d much prefer a mechanical, or even membrane, hard buttons that feel more positive to press. The customisable back buttons are somewhat useful and decent enough feeling, but are sometimes easy to press accidentally.

The macro functions and profile/turbo modes are also useful and the ultimate software is good too, if a little basic. The hardware mode switch on the back of the pad is a welcome addition to me, coming from an SN30 Pro Plus.

The triggers are still probably the weakest thing on the Pro 2 though. They need upgrading next on any potential Pro 3, as well as any and all future products they make. The Pro 2 triggers are very similar to a PS4 pad trigger in feel and operation, but with even more questionable build quality and reliability.

An overhauled future design to the trigger that’s more robust feeling and reliable, maybe with mechanical stops for short action presses, would be very welcome indeed.

I do like the pad a lot though, it’s very good for the sub £40 price, and I’m willing to give it another shot, so I have requested a replacement for the wonky, out of the box, RT performance. Hopefully it isn’t a bad batch and the next one I receive is much better, but be warned… heavy use of triggers, such as in racing games or fps titles, will potentially cause similar issues in the future as these triggers are as cheap as they come. The rubber contacts in them seem to be a very common failure point.
