5.0 su 5 stelle Son of Monster Earth! 25 giugno 2014
Di Dino Dan - Pubblicato su

An exciting return to the world created in the previous 'Monster Earth' anthology! This time around, there's more linkage between the stories in the form of doomsday cult Dissemblers. With genetic secrets unlocked from a monster, corporations, individuals, governments and cultists compete to create, control, and destroy the titan creatures. As you might suspect from the title, 'betrayal' is a frequent theme, as is the hint of approaching apocalypse.

This time around there's more focus on the human characters, with the monsters slightly more background players. I don't think the book suffers for it, but if there's (hopefully!) plans for a third book to make it a trilogy, I hope the monsters take more center stage.

There's not a stinker in the bunch, but my personal favorite was 'Giants of Industry' by Thomas Deja. This tale really captured the essence of humans and monsters being utilized by larger factions for their own ends. Plus, with a psychic linked to the main monster, she really conveyed personality. 'The Fox and the Hedgehog' was also great, and I hope 'Nasmar' makes a reappearance!

Mechanoid Press, I've loved both books! A trilogy would be great, with perhaps a tale or two from a giant monster's POV. Keep up the good work!

5.0 su 5 stelle The Down Side of having large Pets. 25 marzo 2015

I enjoyed this series of tales, especially the story that dealt with the doctor who was being sought by the israelis. The Dissemblers really gave their all for their cause. I had to feel sorry for the poor creatures, being used as instruments by various nations. It became very clear that although humanity tried to control and direct these huge beasts, in several instances their plans went awry. A very enjoyable set of tales, I recommend it to readers of Kaiju books. JRV

A good, solid book about a fearsome Earth where wars are fought and won with monsters more than weaponry. Very enjoyable and fun. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, so I hope there's a third volume to explain what happened. All in all an excellent read.

If you like Kaiju stories..this book is for you. I enjoyed it immensely and was sorry to get to the ending. Hope this anthology continues in this vain where one story builds on the last.
3.0 su 5 stelle Feels like an incomplete book 26 gennaio 2016
Di Aozame - Pubblicato su
Formato: Copertina flessibile
I think the original book's largely self-contained "alternate history but with monsters as standins for nukes" stories were a much better approach than what they were going for with this one. They tried to have an overarching plot in this book, but it doesn't really work.

You think the whole Dissembler story line is going to go somewhere, that there's going to be a climax where the whole thing comes together and you learn the truth about their mysterious leader and his prophesied apocalypse. There isn't. The apocalypse starts on the last couple pages of the book at the end of an mostly-unrelated story while a giant spider fights a giant alligator, and the book just ends. No big finale, no resolution whatsoever, that's it.

It's really unsatisfying, and feels like an incomplete book, to the point that I initially believed it was deliberately so.
