The story is based around a young choir school school teacher whose younger brother is currently in a psychiatric hospital. The teacher is concerned that the reasons for this are ill-founded and sets out to see if the weird and wonderful stories that his brother told him of a dual existence, demons and angels could possibly be true. He uncovers a web of connections that lead to the ultimate evil of The Bishop’s Child. He obtains employment in a choir school where he meets 2 dual existence children, one of whom his brother had told him about, the other just about to discover his fuller life. He also uncovers a number of possible identities for The Bishop’s Child. He is helped in his search by a child psychologist who has information that might help him.
The story is told by different characters in the first person, and events overlap as they unfold in each world. Sometimes the writing style is frantic to reflect the confusion of a dual existence. The Bishop’s Child and his assistant, The Striped Demon, who control part of The Demon World are aiming to take total control there and then use the power of 16 dual existence characters to unleash his evil dominance in the human world.
The key to the plot appears to be a magical Mineral Stone that gave life to The Demon World and can transmute good energy into evil. It is placed in a cathedral-like cavern in the depths of a castle in the centre of the Demon Forest. Only the Golden Light can hold back the evil onslaught and give power to the dual existence characters to hopefully defeat The Bishop’s Child.
