Jan and Bob Ritter live on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in Southern Maryland. Both are graduates of the University of Maryland and longtime residents of the Washington Metropolitan Area.

Jan is retired from the teaching profession where she specialized in early childhood education and Reading Recovery. When not walking the boardwalk for exercise, she enjoys shopping, antiquing, reading and working crossword puzzles.

Bob is a retired federal criminal investigator with a wealth of law enforcement and protective experience. A born collector, Bob loves history and the music of the 1940s-60s. He takes pleasure in watching the wildlife and ships that pass by the couple’s bay-front condominium. Bob is a member of the Association of Former Agents U.S. Secret Service (AFAUSSS), the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

Jan and Bob relish spending time with family and friends, especially the couple’s five granddaughters. With over 40 years of marriage, Jan and Bob deeply love one another and cherish each day together.

Breaking Tecumseh’s Curse is the story of their early years together.

5.0 su 5 stelle MY FAVORITE SUMMER READ 19 agosto 2016

This is a real page turner! Filled to the brim with interesting, historical details and yet still weaves a family's true story of love and dedication to work throughout. Most interesting is the author's struggle with the challenges of being married to a Secret Service agent whose career forces her to take a backseat. The amount of worry and anxiety she went through because of it is astounding and perhaps not something the rest of us realize. Also, the facts and events from the time are compelling and take the reader back in time effortlessly. This book is a must read for history buffs, but can be understood and appreciated by anyone who wants an insight into "behind the scenes" of agents entrusted with the President's life. Hope there's a sequel!

As the daughter of a Secret Service agent, I remember the exact day that I realized what my Father's job really was - to die for someone else! I bought this book hoping to learn more about the Secret Service and specifically the history of Tecumseh's Curse. I was not disappointed. Exceptionally researched history was intertwined with the side of the story that many American citizens don't think about - the human side of these Secret Service Agents who pledge to protect the President at all costs. A great read, well written and easy to follow for a history afficionado as well as a lay person. I recommend this book for anyone interested in Secret Service History, the History of Tecumseh's Curse, as well as personal accounts of the times.

You must read this very compelling story of two young people and their exciting journey together, Jan, an educator, and Bob, a Special Agent with the U. S. Secret Service. This wife's perspective of life married to a Secret Service Agent is written with humility, honesty, and with a sharp eye on events of the day and their impact on marriage and children. It is a fast and fascinating read, riddled with history lessons and informative background on various locations and historical figures, particularly our U. S. Presidents who Secret Service Agents are charged with protecting. Mr. and Mrs. Ritter deserve our thanks for sharing this personal, heartwarming, and truthful story. And, may I add, I shall be forever grateful to the men and women of the U. S. Secret Service.
5.0 su 5 stelle An interesting inside account of recent history 7 ottobre 2013

I usually read one fiction and one non-fiction book at the same time, and will grab the latter when I need help getting to sleep. That was a mistake with this book, as it was interesting and compelling enough to keep me up late for the two days it took to read--a page turner of the type I usually associate with fiction. The mixture of contemporary history from a unique insider view with the personal life of the author and her husband was well balanced and keeps the chapters moving. The account of a secret service agent as a real human being and family man contrasts with the common movie portrayals of stoic, even robotic supporting characters. This was an excellent, well-written book that I would strongly recommend. (non) Disclosure: my last name is the same as the authors, but I am not related and have never met them.

This is a fascinating account of a career so few of us ordinary citizens understand. From the perspective of a spouse, we are brought into the intensely demanding life of a dedicated Secret Service agent. But it is a thrilling life, a career of real consequence, and the reader gets to ride along through some of the most challenging events of the late twentieth century.

This book is rich in historical detail as well as deeply informative about the organization and procedures of federal law enforcement before 9/11.

Best, it's also a fun read, full of compelling stories with a real cinematic quality, narrated through a touchingly personal perspective.
The deeper you get into this book, the harder it is to put down! I loved it!
