One quiet afternoon Cassy Knight, a mother of four, is shocked to get a phone call from school. Her eight-year-old son, Jeremy, is accused of starting a fight—and even has a nice-sized shiner to vouch for it. He says he was tired of being called “stupid” over and over by the school bully. Jeremy turns to stare out the window, but Cassy sees a tear spill over and make a trail down his cheek. The next afternoon,nine-year-old Nicole bursts into tears because a teacher laughed at her for believing the story of creation in the Bible.
Cassy and her husband, David, grew up in the public school. It’s the only way of education that they know. But now they wonder. Is public school really the place where our children should be? That simple question will lead them on a delightful, surprising, and unforgettable journey of discovery.
