Technology to die for...

The most significant improvement to mankind since the invention of the internet, Chris Sanders knows his research will change the world and make him a very rich man.

Detective Ben Naylor from Washington DC's Metro PD finds the evidence against Chris is unequivocal. Either Chris Sanders is a calculating, cold-blooded killer, or he is the unluckiest son-of-a-bitch alive.

3.0 su 5 stelle Great Story with some minor issues that were distracting 24 giugno 2012

First and foremost, I would like to say that the story was enthralling, it was a faced paced thriller full of action, likeable characters and it kept me guessing. I'm very glad I read it and would read more from this author.

Minor issues that distracted me from the story were:
1- Editing errors, more than a few. Problems with spelling and punctuation.

2- It seemed author didn't try very hard to make the American characters sound American, especially the detective, Ben and the wife of the main character. There were quite a few times the American characters sounded like they were from "across the pond" themselves. It was kind of weird for me.

Bottom line, I enjoyed the book. The above mentioned issues were just a little too distracting for me to be completely wowed.

The Cons: To start, the story synopses is a bit misleading in that the main characters wife does not play a big role in proving his innocence or story development in general. I would also have liked to see a bit more focus on the coding and computer aspects. Some characters are developed and really go nowhere in the story. For instance The main characters father in-law seems like he is going to be a major role in the book but then does not. So does the main characters friend who comes to stay. He seems like he is going to be a major player in the story but just doesn't become one.
The Pros: The author writes an interesting story that was very fun to read! The ideas of his computer breakthroughs are easily believable. I enjoyed reading this book a lot!

3.0 su 5 stelle Decent effort, but lacking in some major areas 21 giugno 2012

I have to start our by saying that I picked up this book due to my background in the IT industry. I've been a network engineer and computer programmer for close to 20 years, and this subject piques my interest and was looking forward to a great suspense and action book with IT as the underpinning for the story. The technical information in the book was very good and shows the authors experience in the field. From this point of view, I was pleased as the technology was well described and easy to believe that these types of systems can and may exist in the future.

I read several reviews about the political nature of the book and the criticism of the author bashing America. I personally believe that these reviewers are jumping on the fact that the author is not American. I read the book and I did not read anything that was different than other views for American government and the views by some that in a post-911 world we are moving closer to a society that includes Big Brother without our knowledge. I wonder if these reviews would ring the same if the author was American. In short, do not make a decision to read this book based on a review of political motives of the author.

The reason that I scored this book low was character development. I never really felt that I got to know the main characters in the book. There were attempts at learning about their past, but I never really connected with anyone in the book, and I was left looking for more from almost every character in the book, especially from the Welsh friend. I kept expecting to see a twist from this character that simply never came.

The biggest disappointment was the progress of the story in some places. There were assumptions that were made or not made my the primary characters that simply felt out of character for the way that they were built. Our main character is an incredibly gifted computer programmer and yet he was not able to put simple clues together or simply ignored clues altogether.

The detective jumped to a conclusion quickly at the start of the book and then with a small piece of evidence that he did not collect completed a 180 turn on his view. This was a critical point in the book and was done quickly without any depth. It was a great chance to build the relationship between characters that again never came.

As a first effort, the book was enjoyable, and I liked the way that the primary character wrapped up the end of his issues.

I really enjoyed the opening... It is, in a word, a tease! I have it on my kindle, so I wasn't paying attention to how far along I was. Just when I thought this is getting good, I realized it was almost over.

I think he could have done more with this, but I appreciate the hard work that goes into writing such a book.

If you are really into coputers, you might have a gripe or 2, if you know enough to recognize some terms, but not a hacker, you will enjoy it.
