When Lauren Keane is kidnapped during a winter break in Nuremberg, she doesn't take it personally. The kidnappers have, after all, mistaken her for her friend Katti. When she finds a dead Albanian cleaning woman in her shower, however, she figures it's time to fight back. Especially as she is now in the frame for the murder.

Along with Wolf, her ex, who's now engaged to the frigid Ingrid, and Gunther, an undercover-or-is-he?-policeman, Lauren sets about trying to find the vanished Katti, nail a bunch of sex-traffickers and discover why the cleaner was brutally murdered.

Not that she delights in putting herself in danger but, if she's ever going to get the chance to buy her presents at the Nuremberg Christmas market, she's going to have to get the mess sorted out somehow.

Set in a wintry Germany, DON'T LOOK DOWN is a fast-paced thriller that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until the icy denouement in a cave high in a hillside.
Barbara Scott Emmett is the author of The Man with the Horn, The Land Beyond Goodbye, Drowning: Four Short Stories and Wasps & Scorpions: Luv Pomes and Other Lies. See details here:

4.0 su 5 stelle Rollercoaster 5 luglio 2014
Di Elegsabiff - Pubblicato su
Formato: Formato Kindle
This book is a ride you get on and just cling on for dear life. The irrepressible Lauren gets thoroughly bumped and battered but there's a zing to her story that kept me reading. I knew she would come through it (that's not a spoiler, I don't think) and that meant all the other threads in the book, some of which were seriously dark, would be pulled through with her. Not everybody gets through, it isn't that kind of book. Dark, fast-paced, exciting. The people you started caring about (and you do start caring about the oddest characters) make it, and the baddies get theirs. A few innocent bystanders have a bad time of it because there's a gritty undercurrent but there's also a kind of looniness at times which is a welcome relief. So is the rather yummy Wolfi. Not enough of him!

Every now and then I remember I read for escapism and this rollercoaster book, set convincingly in Germany, is pretty escapist. It was an interesting read and I roared through it in one sitting.

5.0 su 5 stelle gripping but not TOO scary! 14 giugno 2013

I really enjoyed reading this book. Sometimes all the success when escaping seemed a little improbable, but ah well, such is life, isn't it? and it did not spoil the book at all. Well written, didn't want to put it away, but it was not TOO scary, love it!
