Psych Thriller Adds Deviant Twists to Sociopath Theme

RJ and Adina enter the world as fraternal twins, one raised by old-world, controlling immigrants in El Barrio, the other sold into a religious home filled with lies and scorn. Both are sociopaths.

Turns out, RJ's got a secret that enrages him with the flip of a switch. Adina uses her sexual power to dominate every man in her life. They are on a mysterious trajectory to cross paths in New York City, where the end of their lives culminates in an apex of horror and carnage.

"One must feel sorry for those who have strange tastes, but never insult them. Their wrong is Nature's too; they are no more responsible for having come into the world with tendencies unlike ours than are we for being born bandy-legged or well-proportioned." -- Marquis de Sade, "Dialogue the Fifth," Philosophy in the Bedroom

New York City native, Minnie Lahongrais was born and raised in an area called "El Barrio." She currently resides in the culturally diverse borough of The Bronx. Minnie released her first psychological thriller "Sinner's Ride" in 2011. She is currently working on her urban fantasy trilogy, "Resurrection of Dead Dreams" which she hopes to release late next year.

5.0 su 5 stelle Divergent Lives commands attention! 25 dicembre 2012

Divergent Lives is truly a work that commands your attention from the beginning. The first chapter sinks the hook to the point the reader cannot walk away. Minnie Lahongrais truly captures the reader's attention and holds it throughout the twists and turns of the lives contained within these covers.

RJ and Adina are born fraternal twins, but due to a physical abnormality and decisions made solely by the doctor they are separated at birth. Adina is raised by her strict immigrant parents and grows to resent and ignore the boundaries set. RJ is placed into an adoptive home that the doctor feels will be best for him given the circumstances surrounding his birth, but suffers a life of abuse at the hands of one who should truly love him. Both RJ and Adina possess certain sociopathic tendencies that only one finally decides to overcome.

The resulting story is one that makes this book one that will be read and then re-read!

5.0 su 5 stelle Magnificent 25 dicembre 2012

The story grips you from the first sentence in Chapter One. Minnie tells you the tale of Adina and RJ, twins separated at birth, both living a life they haven't chosen but for the decisions made on their behalf while they were only kids. The environment you live in can shape you to become a monster. Adina in her ways is a soulless Domme who likes to be in control and inflict pain so she doesn't get her feelings hurt by falling in love. RJ suffers from a physical deformity that prevents him from having any sort of normal sex life. Sex is really what drives every human being in this world. We seek balance, pleasure, absolute control or submission - the ultimate surrender making us vulnerable and therefore easy to hurt. Minnie Lahongrais possesses this innate talent at peeling the layers, exposing the real truth about her characters one page at a time, forcing you to put up with their vices and witness their demise. There's no redemption, no happy ending. All you will find in this story is the raw description of what a sociopath really is, and what he really does. Life at its most realistic and horrifying stage. How human beings can turn into killing machines.

I will admit that stylistically, the story possesses some beautiful passages. I noticed a few redundancies and tense discrepancies along the way, but they never stopped me for finishing the book in one sitting.

Truly magnificent. I cannot wait for the next book.

5.0 su 5 stelle So Good You Don't Want it to End 12 dicembre 2012

I read a lot of books, mostly mysteries and I just have to say: Minnie Lahongrais has done it again. First there was Sinner's Ride that took you on some really creative and twisting rides. It made my heart beat and I finished it too soon because I wanted more.

Then along came Divergent Lives. I actually stopped reading it at one point just to breathe. My mind was going in such directions, trying to figure where the author was going. I wanted to savour the book, I went back to it and low and behold! It went where I never thought it would. It was such a great read. I cannot wait for her next book.

Ms. Lahongrais captures the reader's attention from start to finish. Gripping book filled with deceit, lies, love, lust. How one persons decision can effect so many lives is amazing. Twins separated at birth, this book takes you on a journey on how they diverge in different directions and are brought back together with a horrific ending.

Minnie keep up the GREAT work, from Sinner's Ride to Divergent Lives you keep us on the edge and wanting more. I look forward to your next book

I think ms. Lahongrais had a great idea for a story but it feels like she wrote a much longer book and her agent told her to shorten it. There are some parts where she lingers on unimportant facts and then sections like Tommy's visit with Rhys that seemed like parts were removed. Disappointing.
