Descrizione del libro

Alex Kingston, who plays River Song in the hit BBC TV series, reads this sci-fi noir adventure inspired by the Doctor Who episode 'The Angels Take Manhattan'.

Sinossi

On some days, New York is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
This was one of the other days…

Melody Malone, owner and sole employee of the Angel Detective Agency, has an unexpected caller. It’s movie star Rock Railton, and he thinks someone is out to kill him. When he mentions the ‘kiss of the Angel’, she takes the case. Angels are Melody’s business…

At the press party for Railton’s latest movie, studio owner Max Kliener invites Melody to the film set of their next blockbuster. He’s obviously spotted her potential, and Melody is flattered when Kliener asks her to become a star. But the cost of fame, she’ll soon discover, is greater than anyone could possibly imagine.

Will Melody be able to escape Kliener’s dastardly plan – before the Angels take Manhattan?

If you expect the exact book from "Angel's in Manhattan" you'll be disappointed. But the story is nice and if you like River Song, that's your book.

Interesting book, but it's not the best. It's a must have for any Doctor Who fan and for anyone who likes River Song.

5.0 su 5 stelle River Song: The Queen of Sass 4 ottobre 2012
Di Danica - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
This was absolutely perfect, brilliant, sassy and so so RIVER. MY LORD, I could hear her voice when I was reading the dialogue. It was a fantastic read and I couldn't get over all of the flirting and the sass and the pure wit sprinkled throughout. Did I mention the SASS? This was exactly what I wanted in a solo River book and I am so pleased that I wasn't disappointed.

I have three wishes concerning this book:

1.) I wish I could have a hard copy
2.) I wish it was longer
3.) I wish we could get an audiobook with Alex Kingston voicing it.

PS: Don't go into this expecting a recap of the episode told through the book. This is what River was doing BEFORE the episode. It's about her and her alone.

PPS: Yes, I am aware that it HAS been made into an audiobook. This review was written before the audiobook was announced and so I'm happy (understatement) my wish came true. You guys don't need to leave comments letting me know it was made into an audiobook. I purchased it the day it came out. Thanks!

5.0 su 5 stelle Ice in her heart and a kiss on her lips 4 ottobre 2012

Great lead in to The Angels Take Manhattan. If you've ever wanted to see what River Song gets up to when not with the Doctor then this is for you.I see the book is getting some bad reviews and I'd just like to point out this is a prequel to The Angels Take Manhattan. Not the book the Doctor was reading. If you are not a fan of River Song don't read it. This covers where the Angel that Mr. Grayle had was before he obtained her.

5.0 su 5 stelle I'd love to see Richards write River in a proper New Series Adventure 4 ottobre 2012
Di Megan Heaton - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

"The Angel's Kiss" is everything I ever wanted in a solo River Song story. The sass. Her brains. The sass. Guns. The references to the Doctor and her life, which I thought were fantastic. The sass. You can tell this was deliberately hyped up in a pulp fiction manner, but the core of it is all River Song. If you're a fan of River, you're going to love this story. You can hear Alex Kingston's voice in your head as the narration goes along, and it ties in extremely well into "The Angels Take Manhattan," pretty much leading right into the first scenes of that episode. If you're not a fan of River, this story isn't going to change your mind.

Because this was a lead-in into "The Angels Take Manhattan," I doubt we'll see anymore Melody Malone stories, which is a shame. But Justin Richards, who wrote this book and a plethora of other Doctor Who stories, has proven that he can write River Song. This gives me hope that eventually they'll allow her to be in the New Series Adventures books.

5.0 su 5 stelle Oh, Sweetie, this isn't your typical novella.It's better. 4 ottobre 2012
Di E. Rock - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
The first foray into River Song's head is a rollicking roller-coaster of snark and sass, and if you love River Song, you will adore this novella. Justin Richards has done a marvelous job of getting into her head, and her 'voice' comes across clearly as you're reading. Innuendo laden jokes and internal commentary are as snappy as her spoken word, and yet she maintains the show-established elegance that we have all come to know and love in the feisty creature that she is.

Indeed, as a lead-in prequel to the Doctor Who episode The Angels Take Manhattan, it is spot-on bang-up fun. The writing style is true to the classic era of over-dramatized private eye books and movies, twisted further with a tone of self-mockery. This is a novella that knows exactly what it is, and pokes fun at itself the entire way through.

I'd happily buy more Melody Malone novels. Very happily. In fact, Mr. Richards, may I wave some money at you in an effort to encourage you to continue this line? Or would you prefer plastic?

3.0 su 5 stelle Noir from start to finish. 8 ottobre 2012
Di Timothy Marvin Coplin - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
ANGEL'S KISS is a quick and easy page turning mystery that embodies the classic noir feel. Told from the perspective of Melody Malone, the sole employee of Angel Detective Agency, we are taken on a whirl-wind case of mistaken and mis-taken identity.

Doctor Who is on the cover, but don't be fooled. The only Doctor you'll find here is a stark resemblance between Melody and her alter ego Dr. River Song from the classic BBC program. Also along for the ride are the Angels - the ones that have come to be the penultimate monster on said program.

ANGEL'S KISS is probably closer along the lines of a Young-Adult book in length, reading level and literary construction; but the noir-esque entendre keeps the content firmly ensconced in the mature adult section of the library.

This really was a fun book to read, especially with all the hype surrounding its link to the fifth episode of the seventh series of Doctor Who featuring a similar story line, and brief quoting from the book.

I wish I could give this book an 'excellent' or even 'life changing' rating, but I simply cant justify that; therefore, I rage this book 3 STARS OUT OF 5 based on the following system:
+ poor read
++ so-so read
+++ good read
++++ excellent read
+++++ life changing read
