Sinossi

Many will be acceptable candidates, truth be told, and eventually, there will be hundreds, even thousands of dragonlinked. But there will be one who is first.

All fourteen-year-old Aeron wants to do is make his father proud, but the biggest bully in the Caer constantly torments him, he has yet to be allowed to practice his craft of choice, and he’s trying to ignore the increasing reports of deadly nahual attacks. When Aeron is finally invited to be an accepted in Magic Craft, things seem to be going his way.

His life is thrown into complete chaos, however, when he discovers an enormous egg, and unable to ignore its desperate cries, he helps the creature struggling within to hatch. Powerful magic bonds them together, mind and soul, and he wonders how he is going to care for her. Will he be able to do so and keep up with his Magic Craft lessons? And when she’s full-grown, how in Yrdra’s deepest hells will he keep a four-thousand pound dragon a secret?

Aeron’s search for answers in his now drastically changed world will lead to surprising discoveries and revelations, dangerous and distressingly close encounters with nahual, and the possibility of a greater, more fulfilling purpose for him—if he survives.

In DRAGONLINKED, volume one of Dragonlinked Chronicles, author Adolfo Garza Jr. introduces readers to the world of Lethera, where magic and a nascent Industrial Revolution will be the backdrop for several tales about dragons, their newly discovered roles, and the brave souls who are their bond-mates.

Note: Dragonlinked Chronicles is a young-adult fantasy series that is lgbt-friendly.

5.0 su 5 stelle A great first book! 26 ottobre 2016

This very nicely and logical. Opening scenes set the mood and even get revisited latter half nth story. The characters ears are believable. The actual layout and scenery created a beautiful and unique world. Then you really get into how do you care for a dragon and still become a sorcerer? This is a well done beginning and I recommend it to dragon lovers of all ages!

I didn't read the reviews, only the description when I ordered this book. I can safely say I'm regretting that decision. While the book has a very intriguing and descriptive magic system that the author dwells quite a bit into it gets a little old fast. There is several parts where during the protagonists (Aeron's) magic lessons I just skimmed along during them because he was taught in the same boring and safe way every time.

The character was also too afraid to take chances and be independent after he has been told something. Never getting to see his rebel side or his curiosity to try his spells alone and to ignore his commands kinda held back a whole side of the character we never got to see. Also got tired of seeing him constantly getting babied and watched by his masters or his friends. There is also times when the author doesn't know when to speed up the story or jump to the next chapter. Which causes the story to be filled with a bunch of not needed paragraphs spread throughout the novel that at times made me want to just give up and start a new book.

The final straw to decide my decision to not read a follow-up to this novel was the bombshell in the last pages. The way the author just threw it on you with little to no hints at all showed us a perfect example of a non enjoyable case of situational irony. With the abrupt ending following it up pages later didn't help either.

Overall I say the story needs to be cut down, create a better character development and make Aeron more independent. Most importantly change that ending bombshell no good things can come to the novel from that in my honest opinion.
3.0 su 5 stelle Interesting ideas, poorly executed 16 marzo 2014

The author has come up with an interesting fantasy universe but their writing skills aren't up to handling it. (I will admit that I didn't read the author bio before buying the book--and I found myself assuming this had been written by a teenager.)

Sentence structure and vocabulary are juvenile and characters come perilously close to dropping into modern slang too often. Things that don't matter are described in tedious detail (the minute details of printing with a printing press, for instance) while other things of much more importance are ignored. (By which I mean, the emotional lives of the characters. It's not enough to suddenly "tell" us that two people are a couple. We need to be "shown" the emotional connection.)

This book is one of those that demonstrates the value of a decent editor. An editor would have cut about 30% of the text as being unimportant to the story, recommended that the author go back and develop the characters more fully, pointed out the typing mistakes and auto-correct errors, and (with luck) explained how to develop the 'language' of a fantasy world so that it doesn't interrupt the story by evoking the air of 21st century teenagers, hanging around a mall.

I gave it three stars because the story idea was good and there's potential here but this reads more like a clumsy first draft than a novel ready for publication.

In short: Not worth the read.

I had rather high hopes for Dragonlinked as I started out. However it proved to be an inflated read that barely managed to hold my attention to the end. The plot steadily marches on in a somewhat predictable manner. The characters are one dimensional and don't grow much over the course of the book. The "romance" at the end of the book is disappointing, mainly because there was no basis for it and it hit me as unnecessary. Only reason I don't rate lower is because the magic system was vaguely interesting and because I can't find it in myself to give a book with dragons a one star rating.

My goodness, was this unnecessarily long winded! You could cut this book in half and still say the same and it would most likely be better. I was not expecting this book to be so....uh soft. It had a feeling of bigger things to come so you kept reading waiting for it, wanting to see Aeron and Anaya's growth just to have it kind of stay flat. Even the dragon was portrayed as a bit weak. come on, She's a friggin dragon! Just no action and beyond the whole dragon aspect no adventure.

All in all it may be to other people's liking but it was just not my cup of tea. In more ways than one.
