Sinossi

In spite of having to recover from serious injuries from her fall down a cliff with O'nan, Josiah Reynolds is back to sleuthing. This time her friend, Irene Meckler, asks Josiah to investigate the death of her nephew which was ruled accidental. Irene has her doubts.

Along with her best friend Matt and Jake Dosh, a physician assistant hired by Josiah's daughter, Josiah again makes the rounds of quirky characters that can only be found in the mysterious world of ante-bellum homes, bourbon, and horse racing of Kentucky's Bluegrass region.

Will Josiah discover the real reason for the death of her friend's nephew? As Josiah fights for her recovery, she fights for the truth regarding a youth and the secret as how he died. In a land where secrets are buried deep in the earth, Josiah searches in a land that doesn't let go of its past easily. The past never dies in Kentucky - the dark and bloody ground.

5.0 su 5 stelle Good Series! 9 agosto 2012

These are not your typical mysteries, as the characters are quite different than the usual formula. Josiah is in her fifties, and is a financially struggling divorcee that keeps bees and sells honey. That all sounds innocent enough on the surface, but she manages to get herself in some pretty sticky situations, pun intended. You really need to read this series in order, as in the first installment something happens near the end to change Josiah's life forever. If you read any of the others first it will give that away.

5.0 su 5 stelle Death by Living -- and Surviving 23 maggio 2016

While Josiah Reynolds is recovering from the events at the end of Death by a Honeybee, a 15-year-old boy dies. His aunt comes to Josiah and asks her to look into his death because she doesn't believe it was an accident. He's an excellent swimmer. Or was, anyway. Josiah agrees, though she's not sure what she can do.

When she returns to Lexington, she has lots of adjustments to make, both to the enhanced security and her new level of health. She needs a cane to get by, can't drive, etc. Lots of stuff happens. Lots. Things are not perfect among our cast, but the new normal has to work for the time being

And it's every bit as enjoyable as the first book. Great characters further developed. Great story.

Thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommended. I look forward to the third book.
5.0 su 5 stelle Another somewhat noir, excellent mystery 22 agosto 2016

I liked the first volume in this series so much I bought the rest, and immediately started "Death by Drowning." It did not disappoint me!

I especially like the strong female characters- though the men are well-drawn, too!- and the real-life type of murkiness in what happens and why. This murkiness makes the series head a bit more toward noir than cozy, which I appreciate.

Many of the review object to the "cliffhanger" endings. I do not agree. They aren't cliffhangers in the usual sense; they are parts of an overlying story arc. The actual mystery was resolved in both volumes.

And again, props to Keam for actually knowing about bees! The descriptions of swarming and collecting swarms were spot-on.

These are not cozies. While entertaining, they are not fluffy. If you prefer your myst4ries cozy, you probably will not like these, even though I am finding them gripping.

5.0 su 5 stelle A Boy Drowns. Accident? Murder? or Something Sinister? 23 maggio 2016

This cozy mystery is a continuation of 'Death By A Honey Bee'. Josiah is a middle aged heroine who, among other things, is a bee keeper who sells her honey at the Lexington, Kentucky, Farmers Market. The Market, coincidentally, is a source of some of the eccentric characters in this story.
Josiah is recovering from a near fatal fall suffered at the end of "Honey Bee". She recuperates in Key West where she meets Jake, a Physician's Assistant and Therapist. He nurses her back to health.
One of her friends visits Josiah with questions about the death of her nephew. Something seems wrong and Josiah is asked to talk to some of her police sources to see if there is something being covered up.
The story centers on both Josiah getting better and her unravelling the mystery
If you enjoyed 'Death By A Honey Bee' you will like 'Death by Drowning'. Nicely done Ms Keam. 5 Stars.

5.0 su 5 stelle I really have grown to love the Josiah Reynolds books 19 maggio 2015

I really have grown to love the Josiah Reynolds books. I have read 3 of the available 8, about to start the next. The pace is steady and nothing too unbelievable to get past as in many mysteries. The journey of the main character's recovery from grievous injury is an extra dimension of reader involvement. I like the romantic entanglement, and the fact that Josiah is a lovely older woman. The beekeeping element has sparked my interest in something I have never considered until now. There is subtle humor, mixed with believable human emotion, along with the obvious necessary deductive reasoning on the part of a character who never considered herself to be a sleuth. I love the eccentric Lady Elsmere, and hope to hear more of her in later books. A huge plus is insight into "old Kentucky" culture. Being from New Orleans myself, I have smiled more than once as the characters navigate the complicated waters of entrenched society. All good reads, no pun intended- dive into the Abigail Keam books and enjoy!
