Enjoy another witty, emotional book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Erica Ridley’s fan-favorite Dukes of War regency romance series!

Miss Katherine Ross is a wealthy, eccentric socialite who knows precisely what she wants: No husband. No children. No candlelit tête-à-tête with the insufferably emotionless Duke of Ravenwood. She's convinced his heart is ice — until she touches that chiseled chest for herself. One lapse in judgment is all it takes to turn both their lives topsy-turvy...

The Duke of Ravenwood isn't cold and haughty, but a secret romantic who has always dreamt of marrying for love. Instead, he gets Miss Katherine Ross — a headstrong hoyden intent on unraveling his carefully ordered world. He doesn't know whether to kiss her or throttle her. Can they survive each other's company long enough to turn a compromise into love?

With the 7th book in this series it is finally the Duke’s turn to find happiness and love. The Duke of Ravenwood was forced to stay behind when all his friends went off to war. At the time he was jealous but after seeing them come back emotionally and physically wounded he realized that he was the lucky one. This book along with the first book, The Viscount’s Christmas Temptation, makes nice bookends to the entire series. In the first Lady Amelia is running the Duke’s house and she now hand’s the duties over to Kate in this last book.
Ravenwood is known for being cold and aloof but in reality he is a hard-working Duke who feels that his duty as a peer must come first. But, when he is alone in his office he is a romantic who writes poetry and holds out the hope of marrying for love. He isn’t aloof, he’s shy. The first few chapters of this book are reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice and just like Mr Darcy, our Duke isn’t proud he’s shy.
On the other hand, Katherine Ross is a woman who is friendly with everyone. She enjoys life to the fullest. She doesn’t care to marry for love because she doesn’t plan to marry at all. Imagine her shock and surprise when she is accidentally caught in a storage closet with the Duke and they are forced to marry. In addition to a new bride, the Duke also inherits an elderly aunt who has raised Katherine since she was a girl and who is now beginning to show signs of dementia.
These 2 are opposites in every way. He is a Duke who needs an heir and she is a duchess who is deathly afraid of childbirth and didn’t plan to have children. Their marriage gets off to a frosty start but outside the bedroom, they begin to forge a friendship.
The interaction between Ravenwood and Katherine is among the best of the series. He tries to be more open while she tries to be structured. They each put aside their fears to be open to loving the other.
Ms Ridley has crafted a wonderful series which shows the real-life side of the return from war and it’s impact on the men who fought and the women left to pick up the pieces on their return. Throughout the entire series, the Duke has been in the background as a trusted friend who cares as much for the men who fought as their wives. This book can be read on it’s own but for a truly delightful experience one would do well to pick up the entire series.

**I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

I loved this book - it is definitely the crown jewel of the series.

Lawrence, The Duke of Ravenwood was introduced in the first book, he is Lady Amelia's brother and the only one of the four friends that did not go to war.

Ravenwood is all that is proper and comes across as cold and unapproachable. But the real Lawrence is a romantic and a poet. He presents himself to society as the perfect duke and takes his responsibilities and his reputation very seriously, but he is lonely and longs for the family he lost. Katherine Ross (Kate to her friends) appears to be Ravenwood's polar opposite. She is a free spirit and very social.

They don't like each other and form opinions of each other, based on superficial encounters. Kate has an intense fear of loss - she lost her family when she was young and has lived with her aunt since she was a child. She never wants to marry or have children for fear of losing them. Her aunt is getting older and has episodes of dementia - but Kate refuses to accept that anything is wrong - she cannot imagine losing her.

When Ravenwood and Kate are caught in a compromising situation - they have no choice but to marry - much to their dismay. But they both make an effort to make the marriage work.

On their wedding night, they share a very passionate kiss and things quickly escalate, they are just about ready to consummate the marriage when Kate asks Ravenwood to use a condom, so she won't get pregnant. He is very upset by this - he needs an heir and tells Kate that they will take a little time to decide if they should remain married or if they should get an annulment.

As the days pass, Kate realizes that Ravenwood is not the cold, unfeeling man that she thought - she decides that she wants to be married to him and sets out to be the duchess she thinks he wants. Ravenwood is likewise surprised to learn that Kate is not the flighty silly miss he thought she was. She is loyal and passionate. He admires her devotion to her aunt and to her desire to form a performing arts society. He slowly begins to let her into his heart and lets her see a side of him that he has never shared with another.

These two have a slow and sometimes frustrating road to their HEA. But the story is well done and very touching. I felt like Ravenwood and Kate had a soulmate connection - on paper these two could not be more wrong for each other - but in reality - they really were made for each other.

I would recommend this entire series - as you read the books, you see Ms. Ridley growing as an author, each book is just a little bit better than the last and this book is the cherry on top! Ms. Ridley has earned her spot on my must read author list and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

The seventh book in the Dukes of War series continues with as fine a development of characters and setting and plot as the other six. Each are quite different in characters yet similar in that they are Regency romances. Katherine and Ravenwood lead this plot with multiple challenges to a rushed and awkward marriage. With grace and style Ms. Ridley describes this English time period and its inherent caste system while managing to keep a keen focus on the developing relationship of the lead characters. Nicely written and an enjoyable evening's read.

"The Duke's Accidental Wife" is Book 7 and the final installment in "The Dukes of War" series. While, each book are stand alones, I would highly recommend reading the entire series.
The reader finally learns the Duke of Ravenwood's story. Ms. Ridley masterfully brings this story full circle. Such an enjoyable read!

Well written with engaging, lovable, albeit it, flawed characters. The storyline is well written, well rounded, with some twists and turns along the way. Masterfully written by a very talented author. Fans of Historical Romance, romance in general and a great read, will enjoy this story. An absolute delight to read! An awesome conclusion to this series. I hated to see it in, in a way. My only consolation, is knowing Ms. Ridley will have another grand adventure, in our future. A must read Historical Romance!

The Frost King thaws.... Katherine and Ravenwood start off on the wrong foot from the beginning. Ravenwood is staid and by-the-book to keep his good name and Katherine has a “let’s just see how it goes” attitude. It is like mixing oil and water. Their story is one of meeting in the middle. The romance and love is not instant but grows over the course of the story. My favorite lines and ones I feel sum up the love between Ravenwood and Katherine are “You made me whole, a balm to my soul. With you my heart could finally learn to fly.”

Let’s not forget Aunt Havens – her plight is one known to many nowadays but I am sure in Regency time it was looked at very unfavorably. Katherine’s patience and love make their relationship special.

This has been a great series and I have enjoyed every book.
