With the Christmas and New Year chaos out of the way, it's time for the Lancashire Police Department to put their feet up and return to normality.
But for Detective Brian McDone, there is no respite from the frenzy. An unidentified young woman is found brutally murdered in a seedy section of the city, her body laced with bruises, her sharp fingernails digging into her palms. Her eyes are staring up at something in pure fear.
Nobody knows who she is.
As Brian and his team begin to piece together the clues, the answers lead him to places he would least expect. The further Brian digs, one question soon becomes apparent: who can he trust? The answer, it seems, may be life-threatening.
The first in a new police procedural series from British author Ryan Casey, Dying Eyes is a dark urban detective mystery packed with suspense, and a twisting, turning plot sure to please fans of crime thrillers.
"With twists and turns aplenty, the story is both riveting and horrifying, and it is well-worth reading and re-reading." - T.A. Dean

Having said that this is a book of fiction and although I almost stopped reading it about half way through I didn't and have come to like DS McDone. OK the overall writing of the story has many errors on police procedure etc, and spelling, and so on. But this is book 1 and an introduction to the McDone series even possibly the authors first book as it's certainly the first one I have read and that of course is because it was my favourite style of book, a Kindle freebie.
I would continue with the series but I feel £2.99 for a Kindle book if just silly . I may until for a paperback version so that I can then at least pass it on.
This won't suit you if you like fast paced American authors. English writers' with stories set in the UK are a completely different read.
This is worth reading although it has faults. Still free on Kindle too. Give it a try, You don't have to finish it if you don't want to

There were a few well constructed lines like, 'with a waistline growing at the same rate as his discontent' and some truly awful ones, like ' His hair was as greasy as a deep fat fryer' and ' Brian felt like a kid who was just about to be caught w****** by his parents.'
There was also a few inconsistencies that spoiled the story, earlier the main character says he's not been to a pub in ages, then later he's described as liking the time between midday drinkers and nighttime drinkers to visit the pub. Earlier we're told he doesn't like beer, then later he's happily drinking it and even buys some.
It's not the worst book I've read but it's certainly not the best, it's all just rather average.

The story also involves someone who cuts themselves and I glazed over when I read this as I really can't get interested in someone like that at all. I find it all a bit too weird and not something/someone I want to while away the hours with !! All a bit heavy-going.
He spelt stationery as staionary too which is another thing entirely as well.
