Sinossi

At Ever After High, an enchanting boarding school, the children of fairytale legends prepare themselves to fulfill their destinies as the next generation of Snow Whites, Prince Charmings and Evil Queens . . . whether they want to or not. Each year on Legacy Day, students sign the Storybook of Legends to seal their scripted fates. For generations, the Village of Book End has whispered that refusing to sign means The End - both for a story and for a life.

As the daughter of the Evil Queen, Raven Queen's destiny is to follow in her mother's wicked footsteps, but evil is so not Raven's style. She's starting to wonder, what if she rewrote her own story? The royal Apple White, daughter of the Fairest of Them All, has a happy ever after planned for herself, but it depends upon Raven feeding her a poison apple in their future.

What if Raven doesn't sign the Storybook of Legends? It could mean a happily never after for them both.

Apple White's Story (Ever After High, #0.1) is a easy and quick read. It was cute but very short (5 pages). It was a prequel of Apple White daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming leaving for her Legacy Year at Ever After High. A great read.

This was a cute short story about the Snow Whites daughter Apple. You know, from the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Story? Anyway it was quite apple-ing. The author has a way with words.

My daughter enjoyed the series of actual books. She couldn't get in to these as much but maybe that's because she didn't have access to them all the time. That being said, she's not a big e-reader.

I think, unlike the monster high books, this book is supposed to go with the webisodes. That is the only reason I could think that she would put out such short little insights into characters, unless it's just build up for the book... but let's assume that it goes with the webisodes.

So Apple White. Here I have some assumptions on my part. From what I can pick up, Apple White is the ruler of all the land, not just one of many rulers, but Queen where the rest like Briar are just lords, ladies, duchess, dukes.

Which brings me to the part of the review that I feel is the only real thing this book is supposed to generate. The questions... So let's start. First, is this the second run of the stories? Is Apple White really the daughter of the original Snow White, or does she take the name Snow White when she follows her mother's story? Apple I can believe would not listen to the dwarf's when they warn her against talking to or taking things from strangers. However, how do they expect the story to mean anything within the context of the world or to the characters involved? Apple knows she's getting poisoned, she's not falling into the the same vanity trap as the evil queen since she'd just following the story. However, it's clear within this story that Apple is very vain, a fact that is almost encouraged and is constantly supported by her fans. I'll be interested to see if in the story or the webisodes that is addressed in some ways. Also if Hale does include the poisoned apple in the story, does she also include the comb and the laces? And what about her working for dwarf's? Will she work and do their house cleaning, or just use their house as a place to stay? Will they let her get away with that? Or is that something not to be addressed if the rebels win in this 'argument'.

I suppose I'm interested to how closely they stick to the original story while also subverting it, and keeping it child friendly. These are the main questions that popped into mind while reading it. Yes, I could be reading too much into a toy line, but that's the beauty of it being so short, the possibilities are endless.

In this vein, I think this little story that can hardly be called a story is worth it's stars. Because it does peak a readers interest and made me interested in reading the actual book and seeing what she does with the characters and how she weaves in the fairy tales within a royal-rebel tension.
