5.0 su 5 stelle Savor it! 6 aprile 2012

What a lovely book Roger Kean has written! I was going to race through it and write my review, but the text caused me to savor it slowly; it was that enjoyable.

The enigmatic and ephemeral Felix, perpetually young, blond haired and blue eyed, pops up repeatedly through times in history and locales as well as in the future in this well written novel. Kean's impeccable knowledge of history makes this novel exquisitely fun to read as does the fact that he is obviously well traveled. Each vignette puts the reader in the time and place with the detailed descriptions. The characters are also well described and some of them are also repeated through time. Thankfully, Kean is a romantic and I just love romance in a story! Though not all of the story is romance; some is quite tragic. Then of course there is the sex, and that too is well depicted to the point of eroticism. I got the feeling that Mr. Kean's life experiences were poured into this book and fortunately, the benefactors are the reader.

There are many young men who discover their true gay nature as a result of a visit by Felix. So this novel is recommended for anyone coming to grips with their sexual identity. I am highly recommending it in general - it was a very enjoyable read worth savoring at the beside nightly!

5.0 su 5 stelle A tangled tale of love and lust, celebrating a zest for life and adventure 28 luglio 2013

A 5-star rating for Felixtations by Roger M. Kean. Roger weaves a tale across the centuries with characters that meet and mingle in various relationships. Others times and lives seem to flutter in and out upon a whim. Roger's novel is an exercise in keeping track of the various characters and their incarnations.

Felixtations is a novel that will appeal to those who enjoy an action packed novel with twists and turns that challenge one's mind in keeping up with the various threads. Roger's description of characters and backdrops brings them to clarity within the reader's imagination. Part historical and part science fiction, Felixitations has many layers that delight and please the reader.

Personally, being a 60 year old gay male, I enjoyed the eroticism more than I care to admit. The ever changing timeline and the various incarnations that overlap each other did keep me a bit confused. Even though I may not have captured all the nuances of the storyline, I was able to appreciate and enjoy the fast moving episodes. For those of us who believe in mysticism and reincarnation, the novel has and added layer of "what if" that captured the imagination.

Felixitations is a collection of short stories with a central, spritely character intervening throughout. Mr. Kean's writing is masterful, and all the stories have depth and vivid imagery. There were a couple I didn't care for, both were well-written, they just didn't strike a chord with me. A problem I had, not with the book itself but, reading on kindle, it’s hard to flip back and forth throughout the book to recall characters mentioned later. Also, the unifying theme could have been more pronounced, I was hoping for a grand culmination, which didn't happen. All in all, the stronger stories prevail and it’s quite an enjoyable read.

5.0 su 5 stelle Unusual and quite awesome 4 luglio 2012

I really enjoyed this book and finished it almost in one sitting. Mythology, history, several love stories are all mixed up in this book, connected by a lovely Felix. Do not ask me who Felix is, I could not tell you simply because I have no idea, although I have my guesses of course. The timeline jumps through centuries, but it all makes sense and except one story I was not confused at all. It is very amusing how the author gives a nod to several famous myths and then teases the reader with Oliver and Roland for example.

Loved it.

5.0 su 5 stelle Review: Felixitations by Roger Kean 17 marzo 2013

I couldn't immediately sit and write a review, I needed time to think about what I wanted to say. It was impossible to do it justice but I think I've done the best that I can.

It is by far the most fascinating story I have ever read I was totally captivated. It's erotic with some explicit sex scenes, it has romance but it's not M/M Romance. It's Gay Fiction with a Scifi twist.

Felix is the character that is in every short, the constant MC throughout, he's the `facilitator' that brings lovers together for life or sometimes for just a moment in time. He's gorgeous, a blonde haired blue eyed young man that draws people to him like a magnet. He can be so sweet in one short/chapter then so annoying in another I wanted to strangle him but no matter what,I loved him and strangely I never questioned his travelling from era to era it just felt right.

The book is extremely well written. This author has a way of transporting me to whatever place or era he is writing about. The descriptions so well done the stories played like movies in my head, movies I never wanted to end but sadly did. Like my uncertainty of whether this is a series of shorts or a cohesively written novel, the ending has me pondering, did I think it was satisfying and complete or does it scream sequel? It didn't leave me hanging, I just think Felix has so many more adventures that could be told.

Bravo Mr. Kean! Now please can we have a sequel!

One last thing, the illustration on the cover by Oliver Frey is perfect, he is the Felix I see in my head.

Highly, highly recommend!
