5.0 su 5 stelle A great basic introduction to footie 16 maggio 2017
Di Silea - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida Recensione Vine di un prodotto gratuito ( Cos'è? )
I have all of the books in this series so far, and in addition to teaching my kids the basics of major sports, they amuse me too. This may be the snarkiest of them all, though, right from the inside of the front cover where they make a little fun of the fact that it's the most popular sport in the world but americans know basically nothing about it (and call it 'soccer' instead of 'football').

It's also the first book in the series to show female athletes, which isn't an indictment of the series so far so much as the fact pretty much only the men get attention in the major american sports. In the opening few pages, when they show the teams getting ready for a game, they show the US Women's National Team and the Japanese Women's National Team getting ready for the world cup final in 2015. From then on, it's a pretty regular alternation of whether male or female players are shown.

I love this book and think it's great, but i can't close the review without pointing out that it does get the Offside Rule just slightly not right. More or less right, but not exactly right. If you read this book then watch professional footie, you'll be confused the first time a contentious offside call is made (or not made).
4.0 su 5 stelle Attention grabbing color, photographs and typography but lacking in depth, The humor may go over the heads of young readers. 23 maggio 2017
Di M. Erb - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida Recensione Vine di un prodotto gratuito ( Cos'è? )
This is a review of My First Book of Soccer: A Rookie Book.

Although it does have compelling photographs and I do like the typography (big, bold and attention grabbing) plus the bold colored pages grab attention, the content is extremely basic, lacking depth.

The pages contain large action photographs of male and female soccer players. The photos complement the topic for each page. Alongside the photographs are cartoon characters with speech bubbles injecting "humorous" comments to accompany the photographs. The problem with that is the intended audience for this book will not get some of the humor. It is often too abstract for a young reader to comprehend.

I'm also a bit miffed that there are no page numbers. On one of the later pages in the book dealing with a ref calling a Hand Ball (don't know which page since there are no page numbers) one of the cartoon speech bubbles says, "Hey! Didn't you read page 3?" The problem is that there is no page number on the pages so the text bubble seems irrelevant.

This book does have some good aspects but overall I am just left feeling that it is too superficial and not as suitable for the young reader as it could be. Still, I'll give it 4 stars for its good qualities. I definitely think there is room for improvement though.
3.0 su 5 stelle A little busy but seems to have good information in a fun way for younger kids 23 maggio 2017
Di GAMS Mommy - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida Recensione Vine di un prodotto gratuito ( Cos'è? )
It's a cute book but a little busy with all of the photo pictures and the cartoon pictures. Also, the girl cartoon character seems to make fun at the boy cartoon character's expense and their eyes are just oddly placed.

The information seems good and it is done in a fun way for younger kids.

The book had a slight odor on arrival which dissipated after a while and the corners of the book were bent, not sure if that was just from shipping or designed that way. Not sure where the book was printed because did not see the usual statement about that.
4.0 su 5 stelle soccer for kids 16 maggio 2017
Di genoa golf - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida Recensione Vine di un prodotto gratuito ( Cos'è? )
The book is colorful and fun. It tells some basic rules of soccer while following a particular game. The teams are playing, and different situations are discussed in short. There are time stamps on each page. There are cartoon characters all over the book, learning about the game, too, and making some jokes. It is easy to understand for young kids. My son read it several times already, and we read it together, too. He liked it very much and asked a lot of questions. We have other books in the series, and my son loves them all, and read them all many many times.
5.0 su 5 stelle Great Way to Teach About a Sport! 19 maggio 2017
Di Teresa Trent - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle
My First Book of Soccer is a funny, fact-filled picture about the rules of soccer. It explains different types of players and plays using real photographs and funny comments that keep the book enjoyable. This would be useful to beginning soccer players from preschool to fourth or fifth grade. Even bigger kids would enjoy this and it makes understanding the game very easy. Great way to teach about a sport!

I was given this book through Net Galley and have written an honest review.
