The watch
One thing I really love about this watch is the look of it. I love how sleek it looks, the slimness of it, (the C2 was so bulky), the colours of the screen, it’s very pretty. They’ve removed the side button, now you swipe to move screens. The charger is better, it’s magnetic. The strap is better and ergonomic. It just looks so much better. The battery is so much better. After using it for one day, the battery reduced by 3%. I would give it 5 stars for looks and I want to love it so much, I am trying to find anything that’s good about it to keep it. But unfortunately it’s not fit for purpose.
The removal of the side button means that you now have to tap the screen for it to come on, OR, it’s supposed to come on when you turn your wrist. I’ve been comparing both watches, the C2 and C5 and the C5 comes on only 2 out of 5 times, where the C2 comes on about 4 out of 5. The C5 doesn’t come on when you tap the screen. It’s supposed to come on when you tap twice - the problem is, when you tap twice, you end up changing what you have displayed on the screen, which is so frustrating.
HR Tracker
In the C2, HR was always on. Not so here. You have to choose watch faces which all display different things, but where the time is the major thing of each, not a particular statistic, so like a normal watch. With each watch face, you can choose to also show different statistics around the face, some show multiple, others only show one. I’m only interested in HR. None of the faces show HR as standard. But as you can see in the pic, I chose one where the HR was displayed below the time. The problem is that when I tap twice to turn the watch on, it changes the HR to steps, and I have to cycle back through. It’s infuriating.
The HR tracker is grossly inaccurate. I wore the tracker for 3 days alongside my C2 and it consistently recorded a HR at least 10 BPM higher than my C2. I used a third method to test my HR and it was always exactly what my C2 showed. I’m not even active per se, I’m just moving around my house, but I need the tracker to be accurate and tell me when to slow down. The picture shows the C5 showing my HR as 100 when cooking, when it was only 64. It stayed on 100 for about 2 minutes. On reflection, it seems the C5 seems to struggle with changes of HR and is slow to reflect these changes. My C2 will come down quicker and settle, where the C5 stays high for a couple of minutes before realising it’s wrong. It’s really damaging when recording resting HR. My resting HR is very important to me and the C5 consistently reads this as about 8 BPM higher than the C2. So it’s in reality about 55 when it’s being recorded as in the low 60’s. This is a massive difference and this watch is not fit for purpose. It is too inaccurate.
You can set high / low limits for your heart rate which was a complaint I had about the C2, but it also doesn’t work consistently. The lowest you can set it to is 100, and about 4 times I made it go over 100 and only once it beeped. I’m wondering whilst writing this if it’s faulty. Surely it cannot be this terrible.
I haven’t used any of the other features, but like the C2 it tracks sleep, steps and activity. This watch also has an ECG function and a stress function. I got 6 months of premium membership so I am not sure if these functions work without. I used the stress management function a few times but it’s not clear what it actually means.
Overall - This is not a HR tracker, it’s a watch which tracks other stuff. If you’re looking to track HR as part of your health condition, this will not do. It is dangerously inaccurate. If you’re looking to use this watch as part of your exercise routine to track HR, I wouldn’t recommend as it’s unreliable.

I was starting to love the extra data features until I started looking for my flights climbed… and it’s gone! It no longer tracks your flights climbed! Which, as an avid Hiker, is extremely important to me! I’m returning it and going back to my charge 2. (And YEA, it’s returnable, they accepted and refunded me)
The only reason I keep Fitbit even though I have an Apple Watch is bc the altimeter, battery and sleep tracking are superior to apple. However, now that they removed the altimeter I just can’t justify keeping the 5!!!!
2) I don’t like that you can’t customize the colors of the different watch faces. I don’t want bright neon colors on my wrist in order to see all the stats on the main screen.
3) I upgraded from the 2, so I’m not sure when this charged, but I don’t like that I have to now use the watch to set my silent alarms instead of just busting the Fitbit app. It takes so much longer to set up.
4) the side bars are finicky, sometimes they don’t register that you’re pressing them while taking ecg reading.
5) the screen scratches VERY easily!
Conclusion: all in all, if it had an altimeter I would have kept it; if they bring it back on the 6, I’ll buy that. My favorite workout is stair climbing and hiking, so the altimeter is important to me.
Original 9/27/21
It took over 3 hours to finally finish the update. It kept stopping midway through. Going to sync or change the clock face and it keeps saying connection lost non-stop. I’ve already reset and reconnected everything. My only guess is that they rolled out the charge 5 without the app being ready for it? Not sure but super annoying to (4 hours later) still not be able to complete set up

Update: the screen has miraculously switched back on but before I could get a video with it broken with the case number in the background so replacement is being refused.
Update 2: the battery is now draining in less than a day and I’m told this has nothing to do with my device being faulty and that this is an issue with the product itself and a firmware update is coming which should fix it. So don’t buy this, because apparently the battery is broken on all of them.
Update 3 (18thJune): it’s becoming completely unresponsive after the battery dies and I’m having to hard reset every time to get it back on. Still no ETA on the firmware update to get the battery working properly. So still a useless product.
Update 4: have returned it, still no update from Fitbit about the fix. And the message that they sent me on Twitter saying that the battery problem is a known issue has been deleted (but I have screenshots of it). This just feels pretty shady from them so I definitely wouldn’t buy another Fitbit again. Which is a shame because I loved my Fitbit Flex 2. But the Charge 5 is definitely a broken product.

I've had it 48 hours so far. These are the areas where it has not measured up at all for me.
Doesn't measure stairs/floors climbed at all. I thought I had done my research but obviously not well enough. I assumed that it would have all the same features of the Charge 4 plus some new ones. My mistake, never assume.
The date format is American, its not possible to change it. Very irritating.
The strap is very short. Product description mentions the width of the strap but not the length, and there was no option to specify long or short. For me it only fastens on the very last catch, and even then its tight. EDIT There was a second longer strap in the box, so I'll forgive that one.
The other functions work well, as they do on a Fitbit, but these niggles are really a backward step, why have they reduced functionality/options?
