5.0 su 5 stelle A delightful gem!!! James Beard?? 8 giugno 2017

Peter Miller starts his book with a very provocative statement in the introduction: "This is a book about making dinner." Provocative, in these times of the celebrity chef, or the chef as celebrity, in that there is no picture of him on a Vespa on his way to the market, no before and after pics, no talk of his 'journey to health' or 'self-discovery through food' or 'healing food' or celebrity name dropping, or an assistant in tow, or a youtube channel..nothing but making dinner!! Getting food on the table. I'm a prolific buyer and reader of cookbooks, and enthusiastic cook, artist and food photographer. My own library has only about 20 books. Keepers. The two of Peter Miller, Canal House Cooks, the thick red one of Hamilton and Hirscheimer, Romney Steele's PlumGorgeous and Stir-frying to the Sky's Edge by Grace Young some notables. All of them well used, and Peter's new one will soon not be pristine anymore. These people are the REAL DEAL, and should be declared National Treasures!! Hoping for another book from the powerhouse trio of Peter, Christopher and Melissa soon!!

Beautifully written with great pictures, I feel like I'm sitting down to talk to an old friend and I learn so much too. Can't wait to start cooking, it's already a favorite.

The recipes in this book came out good. More importantly though this book really illustrates how to eat correctly and with a certain amount of dignity. I also own Mr. Miller's lunch cookbook which is also fantastic.

I was attracted to this book because of the title. `Five Ways to Cook Asparagus` is a cookbook written by author Peter Miller.

The Table of Contents is divided into 5 main parts, plus a section on essential skills and one on menus. Each recipe uses ingredients the seasoned cook probably already has at home. The epilogue features Cleaning Up (detailed cleaning). This cookbook is for the busy mom, or dad, who thinks they don't have time to cook. Be sure to check out this book before you make that next stop at the drive-thru for supper.

I am reviewing the Kindle version of this book and find the format well laid out, however, the print is very little and sometimes hard to read. I would prefer to have a print copy. I cook from recipes most of the time and this book would help me learn to improvise.

Peter Miller's first book, `Lunch at the Shop`, was made for preparing lunch meals, this book is for cooking supper meals. There are several photos throughout the book that break up the monotony of a well-versed book. It takes inspiration to make a good meal and the author states he is not trying to make anything simpler, he is trying to make it possible and pleasurable.

The ingredients list in the recipes are written in both standard and metric. The directions are written in paragraphs just like a novel, with plenty of information. This cookbook is unlike most cookbooks in that it is written like a novel to be read.

I recommend this cookbook to all seasoned cooks.

5.0 su 5 stelle Super useful and realistic for an everyday home cook. 22 aprile 2017

Formato: Formato Kindle
The single most useful everyday cookbook I've got.
The manageable size, without a fussy dust cover, gets it off of the coffee table, and onto the dinner table. It dispels any intimidation, and the physical scale of it speaks to the compactness of the recipes, and accessibility of the ingredients called for. The writing is so crisp and easy and amusing, I've actually read it at night in bed as I would any other non-fiction.
I intend to methodically cook everything in this book, because it's time to expand my repertoire, and because the techniques and methods invite improvisation. Besides, cooking for my new beautiful and brilliant girlfriend has proven to be a very worthwhile endeavor.
