Il dispositivo unisce varie caratteristiche ottimali per l'uso sportivo outdoor. Molto robusto, contenuto in dimensioni, impermeabile per davvero. Le batterie AA (non fornite) sono una gran cosa; io utilizzo quelle ricaricabili che non finiscono mai. Avevo letto di difficoltà nell'uso del touchscreen, ma in realtà va benissimo (ovviamente senza i guanti, come tutti i touchscreen). Il display è dimensionato sufficientemente all'uso cartografico. Ho scelto proprio questo modello dal display di 2,6" (36x54 mm), perché mi piace utilizzare le funzioni cartografiche, prevalentemente nelle attività in mountain bike e sui sentieri sterrati sconosciuti ai più. La cartografia in dotazione è più che soddisfacente nei percorsi abituali e frequentati. Io personalmente, da amante e smanettone per la cartografia digitale, mi sono sempre trovato bene con le mappe OSM ed ho quindi cercato e trovato tantissimo materiale compatibile scaricando dal sito https://openmtbmap.org/ le mappe dell'Italia (ci sono delle ottime mappe gratuite di tutto il mondo). Non inserisco cinque stelle nella valutazione poiché ho trovato il software di pianificazione su PC un po' carente dal punto di vista delle istruzioni ed in secondo luogo un po' complicato da utilizzare. Ci ho perso diverse serate per capire come progettare le tracce o i percorsi da seguire durante l'attività e non ci sono molte informazioni in merito, se non qualche tutorial su youtube in lingua inglese. Un altro appunto che si può fare è che le tecnologie utilizzate sia nel software sia nell'hardware appaiono un po' obsolete, ma forse è solo una mia sensazione e purtroppo non ho un mezzo di paragone con altri dispositivi analoghi, che non conosco (fin d'ora ho utilizzato solamente App su smartphone che dal punto di vista grafico e funzionale sembrano molto più moderne).

Già proprietario di vari Garmin, dopo aver provato un Fenix 5 e poi l'ammiraglia Fenix 6x per un mese sulle dolomiti ho fatto dietrofront acquistando questo apparecchio. Il Fenix è veramente eccezionale, specialmente come precisione del punto, ma purtroppo la batteria non è sostituibile su ammissione della stessa Garmin da me interpellata e spendere 800 euro per un gps che matematicamente è destinato a perdere progressivamente l'autonomia mi rompeva non poco e soprassiedo sul cambio batteria "fai da te".
Ho provato quindi con scetticismo l'etrex 35 touch che costa 1/4 del Fenix e devo dire che sono rimasto veramente sorpreso, è un gioiellino. Il display è molto reattivo e si "panna" sulla mappa con una facilità sorprendente veramente. Il punto lo fa bene e anche sotto folta vegetazione non ha mai avuto problemi, quache metro fuori traccia ma si capiva benissimo dove andare.
Ha il bluetooth ma solo per ricevere notifiche, Garmin lo ha bloccato nei confronti sia del cellulare (con Garmin Explore o con tracce scaricate da internet) che dell'invio tracce da parte di un pc per via "aerea".
Si è costretti a connetterlo al PC con il cavo usb in dotazione o .... almeno .... così vorrebbero farti fare.
Basta però comprare un semplice cavo OTG da 7-8 euro e... voilà la magia !! ... etrex connesso al cellulare e possibilità di uplodargli QUALSIASI traccia "al volo" ovunque voi siate SENZA PC, stupendo !!
Basta pensare ad esempio di trovarsi il mattino in auto mentre si raggiunge la montagna e di decidere all'ultimo per un'altro itinerario per la meteo ad esempio.....no problem, scarichi la traccia sul cellulare o te la crei con Explore, connetti con OTG e uplodi sull piccolo etrex... Super !
La fascia cardio è un must in più, qualsiasi dispositivo Ant+ viene subito "visto" dall'etrex ed è molto utilie, a chi interessa ovviamente.
Guardatevi la prova e la customizzazione del piccolo su cuneotrekking, molto utile veramente.
Le batterie sono ovviamente sostituibili e le 12-14 ore si fanno tutte a patto di attenersi ai suggeriemnti che trovate su quel sito e di acquistare le batterie eneloop pro Panasonic.

Acquistato principalmente quando esco per sentieri che non conosco o per tracciati da ripetere di qualche anno fa in Mountain bike. Ho voluto fare una sorta di upgrade rispetto al Dakota 20 che sto cercando di venderlo che mi ha accompagnato per diversi anni ed è ancora funzionante. Per la bicicletta in realtà vi sono altri dispositivi Garmin dedicati ma ho preferito questo per la sua robustezza e per il fatto che è cartografico e anche wireless il che non obbliga a collegarlo ad un PC per scaricare le tracce. Lo consiglio a chi vuole un buon prodotto affidabile in alternativa a dispositivi più carini e slim da bici ma molto più costosi

ECLETTICO COMPAGNO DI USCITE IN MTB O TREKKING

Ormai lo uso da circa 1 anno ed e' divenuto il mio indispensabile GPS per le uscite in MTB ed escursioni montane in posti particolarmente isolati. Navigatore cartografico completo di dati come bussola, altimetro, pendenza, distanza percorsa o rimanente
Non mi dilungherò ad elencarvi tutte le specifiche tecniche, le trovate sul sito GARMIN.
Per la mia esperienza d' uso, trovo molto utile la funzione di rotta inversa cioè con una semplicissima operazione , vi e' la possibili' ti ripercorrere la rotta inversa sino al punto di partenza. E' una funzione Fondamentale e di sicurezza in zone mai esplorate ( boschi)e in caso di mancanza di punti di riferimento per via di vegetazione fitta, o condizioni meteo avverse.
DIFETTI ? per essere pignoli CONSUMA MOLTA BATTERIA se tenuto sempre con schermo acceso e luminoso
CONSIGLIO di Abbinarlo e con 2 batterie stilo AA ENELOOP PRO e una COVER in silicone E una pellicola protettiva in vetro . Per lunghe escursioni portarsi 2 batt di scorta
Seguendo le varie guide presenti on line si riesce ad ottimizzare il consumo delle batterie e l'autonomia e arrivare arriva alle 12-14 ore max

Zunächst der Hinweis, dass ich das Gerät zum Rennrad-Fahren angeschafft habe. Über andere Verwendungszwecke kann ich keine Aussagen machen. Zu betonen ist, dass die Verwendung des Navis meines Erachtens weder selbsterklärend noch sonderlich simpel ist. Da ich selbst einige Zeit brauchte, um durchzublicken, mögen meine Hinweise vielleicht dem ein oder anderen helfen, sich schneller zurecht zu finden.

Ich habe das Gerät im Juli 2018 erworben und zunächst in heimischen Gefilden getestet, bevor es im Urlaub in der Region Gardasee und Tirol ausgiebig zum Einsatz kam. Alles in allem bin ich mit der Funktion sehr zufrieden. Für mich persönlich ist es angesichts des moderaten Preises das optimale Gerät, um Touren (am Rechner) zu planen, sich während der Fahrt im unbekannten Gebiet sicher zurecht zu finden und gleichzeitig Daten wie Geschwindigkeit, Höhenmeter etc. im Blick zu haben. Das Garmin ersetzt für mich daher auch den Tacho. ANT+ kompatible Sensoren, etwa zur Messung der Puls- und Trittfrequenz, lassen sich einbinden, was ich nicht getestet habe, es scheint aber zu funktionieren.

Das Gerät wiegt mit Akkus etwa 170 Gramm. Es ist sehr gut verarbeitet und macht einen stabilen Eindruck. Das Touch-Display ist nicht sehr groß. Helligkeit und Auflösung sind mäßig und nicht mit aktuellen Smartphones zu vergleichen, für den Verwendungszweck aber ausreichend. Die Batterielaufzeit ist für meine Zwecke absolut zufrieden stellend. Zum Einsatz kommen in meinem Fall zwei handelsübliche AA Eneloop Akkus, die bei höchster Displayhelligkeit etwa sechs Stunden durchhalten. Ein zweites Paar kann man ja in der Schlauchtasche unterbringen. Beim Wechsel der Akkus gehen keine Daten verloren. Leider kann man die Akkus nicht direkt im Gerät aufladen, sondern muss sie zu diesem Zweck entnehmen.

Das im Juli 2018 erworbene Gerät war softwareseitig auf dem neuesten Stand und benötigte keine Updates von Garmin. Größere Fehler im Betrieb sind mir nicht aufgefallen. Ein, zwei Hänger mag es gegeben haben, aber das war wirklich nichts Dramatisches. Das mitgelieferte Kartenmaterial ist meines Erachtens besser als sein Ruf. Auch in „entlegenen“ Bergregionen kennt sich das Garmin damit, was das Straßennetz angeht, erst einmal ganz gut aus. Bei längerem Gebrauch und etwas Recherche wird freilich klar, dass es sehr viel besseres Kartenmaterial gibt (was insbesondere zum Wandern ganz sicher unerlässlich ist). Zu empfehlen sind etwa die bekannten Karten von Velo Map, die kostenlos downzuloaden sind und eine sagenhafte Datendichte aufweisen. Hier wird wirklich jeder Gullideckel und jeder noch so kleine Trampelpfad angezeigt. Danach findet man sich mit dem Garmin meines Erachtens überall bestens zurecht.

Die Einbindung der Karten in das Gerät erfordert etwas technisches Geschick, ist aber machbar, das Internet erklärt, wie es geht. Da der eingebaute Speicher wenig freien Platz bietet, lässt sich im Gerät eine zusätzliche Speicherkarte, ähnlich wie beim Handy, einsetzen.

Prinzipiell ähnelt die Funktionsweise des Garmin dem eines Navis, wie man es vom Autofahren kennt. Zu unterscheiden sind jedoch das Abfahren von bloßen Tracks und das Routing. Zunächst zu Tracks: Diese lassen sich vor Antritt der Fahrt mit Hilfe der mitgelieferten Software „Basecamp“ mit ein wenig Übung selbst erstellen. Vorgefertigte Tracks, wie sie auf vielen Webseiten im gängigen *.gpx Format zum Download angeboten werden, lassen sich zudem ganz einfach durch Kopieren in das entsprechende Unterverzeichnis des Garmin verwenden. Das Gerät wird dazu per USB an den Rechner angeschlossen und ohne Installation als Speichergerät erkannt, was wirklich sehr simpel ist. Mit „Basecamp“ lassen sich Tracks bei Bedarf auch bearbeiten, was gut funktioniert, wenn man begriffen hat, wie es geht. Das Manual hilft da leider nicht weiter, dafür aber diverse Youtube-Videos.

Etwas komplizierter ist die Erstellung von Routen. Meines Erachtens ist dies ohne die Benutzung einer geeigneten Software, also nur mit dem Gerät selbst, nicht zu machen. „Basecamp“ bietet zur Erstellung von Routen eine Reihe von Werkzeugen, deren Funktionsweise sich mir wiederum nur nach Konsultation entsprechender Youtube-Videos erschlossen hat. Anhand vordefinierter Wegpunkte errechnet „Basecamp“ eine Route, die dem gewünschten Benutzungsprofil, in meinem Fall „Rennrad“, entspricht. Die errechnete Route lässt sich nach eigenen Wünschen modifizieren, was zwar hakelig ist, nach einer gewissen Einarbeitungszeit aber gelingt. Sodann wird die Route auf das Gerät übertragen und kann beim Fahren benutzt werden. Wie beim Auto-Navi gibt das Gerät dann akustische und optische Hinweise zum Abbiegen aus und zeigt Distanzen zu den Wegpunkten an. Weicht man von der vordefinierten Route ab, wird diese nach einer Weile neu berechnet. Das klappt soweit auch wirklich ganz gut. Zu bemängeln ist jedoch, dass der Garmin zuweilen äußerst eigenwillige Routen vorschlägt. An Stelle gut ausgebauter und hinlänglich bekannter Radwege will das Gerät hartnäckig immer wieder auf stark befahrene Straßen ausweichen. Andererseits lenkt es den Rennradler zuweilen ohne Vorwarnung auf Schotterpisten oder wählt den kürzesten Weg auch dann, wenn die Steigung zwanzig Prozent und mehr beträgt. Fazit: Die Routenplanung kann dem Gerät nicht überlassen werden, sondern bedarf dezidierter Eigeninitative. Unterstützung bietet dabei ein Internetportal wie Komoot, das leider nicht kostenlos ist, meines Erachtens aber leichter zu bedienen ist als „Basecamp“ und zu besseren Ergebnissen kommt. Die erstellten Tracks lassen sich in „Basecamp“ importieren und als Routen weiterbearbeiten.

Natürlich bietet der Garmin auch die vom Auto her bekannte Funktion, während der Fahrt ein Ziel (Wegpunkt, Adresse, Punkt auf der Karte) auszuwählen und dieses direkt anzusteuern. Abgesehen von den oben beschriebenen Eigenheiten bei der Wegführung funktioniert dies in der Praxis gut, natürlich wiederum in Abhängigkeit vom verwendeten Kartenmaterial. Wer nur die mitgelieferten Karten benutzt, wird sich allerdings wundern, dass ausgerechnet die Auswahl einer Adresse, also so wie beim Autonavi, nicht funktioniert. Der Himmel weiß, warum.

UPDATE nach zwei Jahren:
Bin inzwischen viele hundert Kilometer in D, F, A, I, NL damit gefahren und im Großen und Ganzen immer noch zufrieden. Inzwischen muss ich sagen: Kein Mensch braucht die Basecamp Software. Installiert die kostenlosen Karten von Velomap auf dem Garmin. Plant Eure Routen bei Komoot, was super komfortabel ist. Übertragt die *gpx Dateien auf das Gerät und fahrt einfach die Tracks ab. Fertig. Funktioniert 1a.

Am Gerät selbst ist auszusetzen, dass es sich hin und wieder sang- und klanglos ausschaltet. Daten gehen dabei nicht verloren. Wenn man es wieder einschaltet, kann die Fahrt sofort weiter gehen. Trotzdem ärgerlich und nervig. Ich finde nicht heraus, woran es liegt. Es scheint irgendeine Logik zu geben. Na ja, die neueren Garmin-Geräte scheinen da auch nicht besser zu sein. Vorteil des Etrex 35 für mich nach wie vor der Betrieb mit handelsüblichen, d.h. nicht fest eingebauten Akkus.

This is my first ever Amazon review (edit...just realised I'd made couple of minor comments before). Mainly because things are busy but also because everything I have bought before falls inbetween the 'acceptable' to 'very good' bracket. This is a different situation...

First off I'm quite 'techy', have no previous experience with GPS units and have no vested interest in anything but honest reviews.

So I've been using Alltrails (free) on my mobile for my various outdoor pursuits and fancied an upgrade to a dedicated handheld GPS unit. I did loads of research and eventually settled on the Garmin Etrex touch 35, marketed as a mid range device. I was really excited to recieve it.

So it was delivered and I opened the box. First impressions were that it was physically smaller than expected, lightweight and a touch plasticky (Garmin call this rugged). Popped in the 2x AAs and the SD card and powered up. Now I'd been told the included Europe maps weren't that useful but tbh I couldn't believe what I was seeing! The screen is tiny, the resolution simply a joke and the map basic beyond belief. Theres a huge forest 2 miles away and that area was blank. Just the adjacent A road could be seen. Useful for finding london from the M1 i guess if you need that but not much else at all.

I'd anticipated this and pre ordered the talky toaster HD UK map in advance. So i loaded that up and was gobsmacked. I'll include pics but it was basically unusable also.

The screen is just hopeless. It's a touch screen but not as we know it. You can touch 3 spots to zoom in and out and slowly move the map, but no pinch to shrink etc. And it's so small theres almost nothing to touch anyway. As mentioned the resolution is shameful...comparable to a late 80s computer game or a pre- millennium mobile. I cant believe in 2021 this is the best that Garmin can do.

The OS and menus are equally frustrating to use. Way too many steps to perform what I thought would be very simple functions. Also, planning routes both on the unit and through Basecamp is onerous and frustrating.

I took the GPS out locally to a rural area and soon got a headache trying to decifer the info on the screen. Again due to the tiny screen I knew I was on a footpath but no idea where...zoomed out and was greeted with a confusing impression of a Jackson Pollock painting.

I dont mean to sound so negative...I was really hoping to love this GPS. But I'm returning it as not fit for purpose, for me at least. If my life depended on this in an emergency I'm afraid I'd chuck it off the cliff and take my chances with the stars.

So I'll be going back to Alltrails until Garmin catch up to 2021 (or even 2001!) It might drain my battery quickly but I guess a power bank would sort that out.

I got this to replace a Geko 201 but ended up returning it and replacing with a Etrex 30x as the screen kept being non-responsive. It does feels having a touch screen is a little over engineered for me (I use mainly just to record where I have been on long walks) but it might be useful for those who need to interact more when out and about.

I had problems downloading the "Birdseye Image" package I bought (£19.99 allowed me to download 3000 Sq/km of 1:25,000 OS maps) which I was only able to do after "removing" and "re-adding" the device to my account. This wasn't helped by the order confirmation telling me I needed to use Garmin Express to transfer to the device which wasn't true. It also appears that the "BirdsEye" package is device specific. Meaning I might not be able to transfer the Maps I brought to the 30x. If this is the case I would suggest holding back on getting additional maps until you are 100% sure you are happy it.

Finally the software is confusing. I seem to have downloaded six different Garmin software products as well as using two website to manage this GPS. I am sure I will ended up not needing/using them but, at this stage, not clear which are important.

Después de disfrutar durante seis años de un Etrex 30, me he decidido por el Etrex Touch 35 y, tengo que decir, que mejora a su predecesor.
De entrada, la memoria es de 8 GB, por lo que no es necesario insertar una tarjeta SD para cargar los mapas que habitualmente se utilizan (de la península, Pirineos, comunidad autónoma, etc.)
Y por lo que respecta a su manejo, la transición entre pantallas del menú es muy rápida; en particular, cuando se está grabando un track, el paso de la pantalla del mapa, a lo datos de la ruta o al rumbo seguido, es muy rápido; además, te va realizando el perfil completo de la ruta y puedes ver la progresión que llevas en relación con el track que estás siguiendo.
Muy recomendable.

Etrex Touch 35 or 25 - be aware of the connectivity limitations...

The eTrex Touch 25 and 35 are very similar units. The hardware looks pretty rugged, and it looks like it would withstand a reasonable amount of knocking around on a trail (maybe buy a screen protector though). Both come with bike mounts which seem to hold the device quite securely. The software is designed so that you can set up a number of profiles for different sports such as cycling or hiking and adapt the settings to suit your needs for each sport. I'm not sure I 'get' what this is all about at the moment, maybe it will be useful in the future, but so far I've been using mine on the simpler 'classic' setting, which seems more intuitive to me. I first bought a 25, believing it had bluetooth connectivity, so that I could plan a route on my phone and send it wirelessly to the GPS. You can do this planning on a computer and plug the unit in to the computer using the supplied cable, which is fine, but if we're away on holiday for a couple of weeks we won't have the computer with us. Hence why I wanted to use my phone to plan a route. (You could technically plan the route directly on the GPS unit but frankly its such a fiddle that personally I wouldn't bother). Unfortunately the 25 does NOT have bluetooth, so I returned it and exchanged it for the 35 model, which does have bluetooth, and a couple of additional features such as a barometric altimeter, and the ability to connect other sensors for a few pounds extra. The 35 arrived and was all set up and bluetooth paired with my phone easily. Great. Except (and this is not made clear by Garmin IMHO), the buetooth can only be used to relay text messages from your phone to the GPS, or to upload activities after you have done them to the Garmin Connect app. You cannot use bluetooth to send a route wirelessly from your phone to the GPS. Why this is the case I have no idea, as it is possible on some other more expensive Garmin models, and to me it seems a pretty basic requirement. I have found that there is a 'work around' (which I suspect would probably work on the 25 as well, although I didn't try it). It turns out that if you connect the GPS to a reasonably new Android phone using an 'on the go' connector cable, you can plan the route, and send it that way to the GPS. You need to be a bit savvy about transferring files, but there are on-line guides about how to do it. I found it easiest to put a micro SD card in the GPS (max 32GB) and transfer the routes to the correct Garmin folder on that. So, it can be done, but it's certainly not the seamless wireless transfer that I was hoping it would be. Other than this, I'm pretty happy with the eTrex. Hope this helps...
